Kind of obvious this one. Pretty much the godfathers of the Cleveland
Hardcore scene and the ones that put metalcore on the musical map. The
album itself never gets old and indeed stands as one of the best examples
of the genre; a bruising tyrant with a cape of black majesty. |

Suicide King
In Cold Blood; the band that came into being after Integrity's touring
schedule ground to a halt. Formed by the Melnick Brothers, their debut was
a disappointment, partially due to overproduction, but this compilation
showcases some of the best recordings from the band. Dark, heavy and evil
beyond belief. |

The Promise
I admit, I'm not the biggest fan of Ringworm but this was the one album
where they got it right. Easily one of the crustiest metalcore records of all,
it's also one of the harshest with a wall of dissonance and rage. Also
Human Furnace has never sounded as pissed as this. |

Crime Ridden Society
I'll probably get shit for this as this band are just a bunch of racist,
moshcore turds but despite all this and despite "Mean" Steve being an
idiot, both vocally and lyrically, the riffs are actually very good with a strong
Judge/metal influence which earns its place here. |
| 5 | | Six Feet Deep
The Road Less Travelled
Christian metalcore from Cleveland. Far better than it sounds with a great
use of melody and hooks. According to the band's history the vocalist and
guitarist went onto form an indie band and they left this little gem in their
wake. |
| 6 | | Pale Creation
Pale Creation
Yet another of those Holy Terror bands that aped Integrity's style in the nineties, they produced an album
that was not all that good. Fortunately they produced an S/T EP that's actually a damn fine listen. It's only two
tracks but it is recommended. |
| 7 | | Outface
Friendly Green
Derrick Green's old band and a very unusual take on the hardcore/metal formula, utilizing a distinctly Bad
Brains' style of hardcore with reggae influences and all. A very well composed and versatile piece of
metalcore/hardcore. |
| 8 |  | Shai Hulud
Hearts Once Nourished
The premier band to have come out of the Florida scene. Every band that came out of this scene is in
someway indebted to this band Many will sight their sophomore effort as their best however I would say this is
their best because it's far more raw and powerful in execution. |
| 9 | | Culture
Deforestation
Vegan metalcore band and one of the two big ones formed by Damien
Moyal and co. It, like Morning Again, is based in the chug territory but unlike
many of its contemporaries it contains a certain air that stops it from
becoming a baritone like many of its contemporaries and produce
something that is genuinely powerful. |

As Tradition Dies Slowly
The second band spawned by Damien Moyal and arguably the least
accessible of the two. Resorting to the two baritone riffs of most metalcore,
it has a complexity that belies its hard shell. |
| 11 |  | Bloodlet
Eclectic
Yes, Bloodlet. Their brand of metalcore is easily some of the most unique in
the genre. Angular, twisting and dark with the most unique set of vocals,
this band created a type of metalcore that was matched by few in terms of
dissonance and rage. High recommendation with special mention for
Entheogen as well. |
| 12 |  | Strongarm
The Advent of a Miracle
However whatever anyone has to say about Shai Hulud, this band, in my opinion, will always eclipse them.
The black sheep of the two, they were a Christian metalcore band that were not overtly preachy and ended up
producing something astonishingly powerful piece of metalcore. The songs are focused and tightly structured
and Chris Carbonell's scream is easily one of the strongest in the entire genre, something that still stands
today. |

The Opposite of December
Ah this album, the one that has practically influenced every single metalcore band since. Hard, frigid and yet
surprisingly beautiful it's hard not to see why and still remains vital to this today. A must listen for it's
reputation alone. |
