My Radiohead Rankings.

My favorite to least favorite Radiohead albums. Anyone agree? Disagree? Comments appreciated.

In Rainbows

I'm quite sure most would disagree with putting this as my number 1, yet this was the album that made me a fan of them. (Note that I was in seventh grade when I heard this album..) Now as the years have gone by and as I've listened to all of their records, I still hold it to the highest regard. I know it's not their best work, yet I love it the most. The atmospheric nature of Nude, and Reckoner simply captivated my ears. I couldn't stop listening. After my first thorough listen through of the album, I was still in disbelief over how tangible something so magical could be. There's just such an amount of catharsis in this album. That it got me. It got me good. It got me into Radiohead.

Amnesiac

People always put Amnesiac near the end of their lists for favorite Radiohead albums. And for a while I did too. But this album is one that takes multiple listens to be able to fully appreciate the beauty it encompasses. Which could be said for any album really, yet for this album it couldn't be more true. It was the redheaded step-child that joined the Radiohead family, and was immediately shaken off as crap. It followed in the wake of the monsters OK Computer and Kid A, so it's understandable. For fans of Kid A, Amnesiac was just too different, too lame. Oh well. Not a day goes by that I don't listen to Life in a Glasshouse with a satisfied grin on my face. There's something so inexplicably magnetic about this album. It's not as outlandish as Kid A. It's not one that stands in the spotlight, not because it doesn't deserve the shot, but because it doesn't need to. I find that this subtlety makes Amnesiac able to enjoy the backseat of Radiohead's discography. There's something so endearing about the subtlety of this album that I can't help but love part of it.

Kid A

Kid A has always been highly ranked, and it's hard not to see why. It's quite brilliant. I've always been a sucker for electronic music. And when I first heard Kid A I honestly couldn't believe it was the same band. From the general atmosphere, to the quirky instruments, Kid A was just enthralling in every aspect to me, and it still is. The experimentation of this album is one that I greatly appreciate and love.

OK Computer

To be honest, after my top three, my enthusiasm for the rest of Radiohead's discography trails off. Not by much though, as Radiohead really is one of my favorite bands. Along with Kid A, OK Computer is widely regarded as Radiohead's best album. Yet I could never understand why... That's not to say that it isn't good, because it is, but to say it's their best and to rank it with the likes of Kid A is and always was completely incomprehensible. Perhaps it's because of how it's experimental sound was so accessible in 1997. I don't really know. Though the same questionable reaction could be said for my tastes. To each his own I suppose. Though I shouldn't sit here and slander OK Computer, because it hardly deserves it. It truly is great. Paranoid Android, Let Down, and Airbag are particular standouts to me. But that's about it. Yet it sounds like I don't care for this album. And that's not true, those three songs, are among some of my favorites of theirs, yet three songs can't carry a whole album in my opinion. Though I suppose it's enough to want me to rank it in such a way.

The King of Limbs

A lot of people hate this album, and I can see why. I really, really, really can. But there's something about the inviting atmosphere of the first few tracks that draws my curiosity out. It leads one down an interesting path throughout the rest of the album. The electronic and eclectic sounds of the first half seem to disperse, though not entirely, as one arrives towards near the end of the album. There's something calming and beautiful about the last four songs. Something that I really can appreciate, yet cannot fully accept. I'm always left yearning for that kick, that high, that ecstasy one feels when listening to their favorite Radiohead album. And I can't feel it with TKoL. Yet I don't hate this album, I like it a lot. But I just can't love it, not yet.

Hail to the Thief

HttT has a few gems in it such as, (And I know I'll probably be flamed for these, but I probably will for this list entirely haha. So what the hell.) There There, A Wolf at the Door, Myxomatosis, and personal favorites Sail to the Moon, and Sit Down Stand Up. But when you take those few songs away, you have this clusterfuck of an album. When I listen to it, it always feels as if HttT is only a jumbled up and quickly put together ramble of Thom Yorke's political criticism's. With that aside, I do like the aforementioned songs, just not enough to rank this album much higher.
7Radiohead
The Bends

For me, The Bends is the last album that I have anything I remotely like from Radiohead. There's just something that I feel is less of what I like from Radiohead on this album. And again, don't get me wrong, it's not a bad album. But aside from the few songs I enjoy such as Fake Plastic Trees and High and Dry, I don't like much off this album. When people speak of Radiohead's inaccessibility, people now lean on TKoL as their go to ihatethisalbumthemost from Radiohead. But there's just something about this album that keeps me from being able to immerse myself in it. I've listened to it many many times, and I still come to the same conclusion. Is it strange that most people would say this about TKoL rather than The Bends? Hah. Ah well.
8Radiohead
Pablo Honey

There's not much to say here. I don't even think I've listened to it more than 5 times. I just don't like it. Which is surprising. But I can live with not caring for this album. There's always those sad individuals out there... "Oh yeah, Radiohead? Yeah I love Creep!" HurrrrrrrrrDurrrrrrrrr. It's happened to me before. *Cringe* So in essence, I hate this album. I really just can't stand it. There's something so innately off-putting about this album for me. I've tried. But I just can't.
