I've seen myself 5'ing too many albums after a handful of days of listening, only to lower the score a few months later. I know i'm part of the problem here...
dnor 05.25.11	my personal policy is that I may rate an album after one or two spins, but I'll never instantly five it. I might 4.5 it, and in the passing months, it may lower, stay the same....but for a few, they will jump to a 5.
omnipanzer 05.25.11	I can't say I won't ever do it but a 5 really needs to sink in... when I was in my late teens and early twenties I would have instantly 5 shit that had no right to ever be 5'd. Tool - Undertow would be a perfect example.

Underflow 05.25.11	1.) The quality of music must be very consistent throughout. In otherwords, an album such as Goblin might have many amazing tracks (Tron Cat, Steak Sauce, Yonkers, Transylvania), but the whole experience is marred by numerous poor songs (Radicals). 2.) The music has to resonate with me on a deep level. Albums such as "In Absentia," "Blood on the Tracks," and "Animals" are ingrained into my mind. The music becomes a part of you, I guess. I don't think that the "it must stand the test of time" mantra is an effective way to determine whether something is classic. You can grow tired of anything, no matter how good it is, if you hear it too much. In that sense nothing can stand the test of time, and therefore nothing can be a classic.

XfingTheSullen 05.25.11	It must contain no weak songs, all of them must be perfectly written and enjoyable even years after the album's been released. For me a great example is Scar Symmetry's Pitch Black Progress. IMO it contains no single song that lacks anything at all, so lately I cranked it up from 4,5 to 5.

bloc 05.25.11	This also ties in with the fact that after the first listen of the album (and I like it), I'll throw it on shuffle with the rest of my library, so the chance that I actually hear the full album ever again is very low. Therefore, this tactic is not applied very often only because I'll hear a song from the album so rarely that it always sounds fresh to me.

DarkNoctus 05.25.11	5/5's have to be timeless, never really get old, have something really special about them that can't be found to the same extent in other albums. not necessarily flawless, but flaws you can glance over with no problem at all. :]

NigelH 05.25.11	Excellent replay value, not a bad song on the thing, and a superb album flow as opposed to a mish-mash of good tunes. Also, some personal connection/relatability to the music helps.
rockandmetaljunkie 05.25.11	bloc i believe that if you want to be objective in your ratings you have to listen the album as many times as you can within 24 hours, you learn each song by heart and then you listen it again after a few days, or weeks.If the album still provokes the same emotions you rate it.That's my approach.
