05.24.11 | Yeah....the female characters were generally pretty weak... List would look a bit different if it was my favorite characters ranked. |
AngelofDeath
05.24.11 | Agree with 1 and 2. |
JWT155
05.24.11 | I am Desmond. |

05.24.11 | fuck Jack. He doesn't deserve number 2. Charlie should be much higher. Although I do agree that Desmond is the best. |

05.24.11 | totally played favorites on that one though, he absolutely should be higher. might edit. |

05.24.11 | wtf jack is boring and i don't give a shit about him, desmond is cool but not as cool as Locke and Sawyer and charlie should definently be top 10. i agree about the women characters though |
AngelofDeath
05.24.11 | I didn't care for him much either, but I probably would've put him a bit higher. |
JWT155
05.24.11 | Shannon was the worst character on the show. |

05.24.11 | Double post zomg |

people hate jack but don't understand that he's basically a perfect protagonist. |

05.24.11 | @jdub
nikki and paulo??? |
acorncheese
05.24.11 | to anyone who thinks that shannon was the worst character on the show.........have you fucking forgotten about ilana? she was hands down the worst character on the show. |
Satellite
05.24.11 | ilana was more unnecessary than bad imo. she was just a plot device that existed for way too long. |
fsharptrit0ne
05.24.11 | One of the only female characters I really liked on the show (Libby) was killed for no fucking reason... I didn't like Charlie too much either but oddly enough the show got so much worse after he died. |
mothercountry
05.24.11 | Kate's hotness has got to count for something, right? |
Satellite
05.24.11 | the idea that (just about) any character could die at any given time is sort of part of the appeal of lost
and so is getting pissed off at lost |
acorncheese
05.24.11 | i try to act like kate wasn't even in the show. easily my most hated character, though that's not to say that she was a bad character...at all.....i played favorites way too much in this list. |
Satellite
05.24.11 | kate pretty much just fucked everything up all the time
the episode with the trial is the only episode worse than the nikki/paulo/diamonds one |

05.24.11 | yeah she definitely fucked up EVERYTHING and

05.24.11 | Cool list, but I think Locke is my #1. Desmond would probably be #2. |
acorncheese
05.24.11 | locke was absolutely the best character through season 5, but with the man in black it was almost hard to think about locke during the last season and half of the show. jack was just beyond phenomenal in season 6. completely reborn. the ultimate hero. |
fsharptrit0ne
05.24.11 | The best characters in season 6 were obviously Shang Tsung and John Lennon |

05.24.11 | I hate Jack.

4.Juliet
5.Kate

05.24.11 | why do you hate jack? |
acorncheese
05.24.11 | I can understand hating seasons 2-4 Jack (I was totally on team Locke during those seasons), but overall he was a perfect character, as sat said. His arc was just so completely realized by the final episode. |
Eko
05.24.11 | 14 SHOULD BE HIGHER OBVIOUSLY |
Eko
05.24.11 | 1. Eko
2. Charlie
3. Ben
4. Hurley
5. Kate (haters gonna hate)
Jack should be way lower
Nikki and Paulo episode should be deleted from lost history. |
acorncheese
05.24.11 | It takes far too much shit imo. Sure, it was pure filler, and it was mostly gay how many landmarks on the island were discovered by Nikki and Paulo rather than the main cast, like we were led to believe, but it was at least interesting. |
Eko
05.24.11 | in all seriousness though deviant won when he said Frogurt. |

05.24.11 | Ok yeah I hate seasons 2-4 Jack. He's a little better later on, but my hate had grown so strong that I couldn't just change my mind. It bothers me that one second he's like "I'm not a leader." and the next he's like "WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME YOU WERE WALKING OFF INTO THE TREES TO PEE, KATE?!" |

05.24.11 | I still maintain that it should've ended with Jack and Locke on the beach exchanging dialogue similar to that of Jacob and MIB's in their conversation at the beginning of The Incident, with Jack being the new Jacob and Locke being the new smoke monster. The real Locke, though, which would obviously negate most of season 6. I just think that would've been beyond awesome. |

05.24.11 | richard, sayid, ben, desmond, hurley made the show for me.

1. frogurt [3]

Eko
05.24.11 | I still think the "republican guard" line in the pilot is the best funny line. |

05.24.11 | Nice list man. I agree with most of it, with maybe some slight changes, but yeah, FUCK KATE, STUPID WHORE FUCKED SHIT UP. I was also a jack fan, even though my friends despised him. Also, that final season episode that focused on Ben was classic and television at its best. |

05.24.11 | is seinfeld our generation? |
acorncheese
05.24.11 | I guess it was kinda ignorant to say "our generation" lol. But I kinda just assume that most of the people on here are like 18-24, in which case LOST is of that generation. Seinfeld isn't of my generation. I was 8 when the show finished. However....
Seinfeld is the greatest show of all time bar none. |
Satellite
05.24.11 | "is seinfeld our generation?"
i'd sorta say no. that was definitely a different era of television.
the wire and the sopranos were both genius shows, but i didn't enjoy them as much as i do lost, AD or mad men. |
Eko
05.24.11 | season 2-4 or so of the american office is pretty essential but I don't watch that much television tbh |
acorncheese
05.25.11 | I loved The Wire, but I wouldn't call it the greatest. Obviously when I say Lost is the greatest it's my own insignificant opinion. I
just mean it in that it absolutely captivated viewers with its character development and mysteries, two things that I, personally,
had never seen much of in shows I watched prior. I mean this show consumed lives. People wrote out elaborate essay-length
theories on every little thing that happened in the show. It was simply a phenomenon. Look at the aftermath, look at all of the
shows that exist or have existed since simply to try to bank off of the mystery craved audiences that Lost created. Idk, to me it'll
always be the greatest.
oh & inb4 someone says The Wire is the best because there are college courses based on it |
fsharptrit0ne
05.25.11 | Lost consumed lives and has so many fans because it was a better than average program on a major television network, ABC, as you know already. The Wire was on HBO, which isn't unknown obviously, but while it was on the air, The Wire was very much unheard of. It's really not until a couple years ago that its been gaining steam and the credit it deserves. I like Lost too btw, and I'm not trying to change your opinion or anything but I'm just citing the facts. Speaking of character development, The Wire's is on another level. You could write a book alone on the characters stories and what they ultimately become. |
acorncheese
05.25.11 | Nah dude you're absolutely spot on with everything you said. Most HBO shows are incredible and suffer from being on a premium channel. It's absolutely criminal that shows like Deadwood, Rome and Carnivale (oh this one hurts) were never able to run their courses because of lack of viewers. |
fsharptrit0ne
05.25.11 | I know, it really does suck. Even incredible shows get cancelled on major channels (Arrested and Firefly on FOX for instance) which is just terrible. But yea I'd run through The Wire again if you have the time and try it out again. There are reasons why it gets all the acclaim it does. |

05.25.11 | lost seasons 1-3 (esp 1 and 2) were amazing and at times it would return to its greatness but never on any consistent level. |
acorncheese
05.25.11 | ^ i agree to an extent. 1-3 are television at its finest. |
BassDemon333
05.25.11 | I agree that Jacks character came full circle at the end. He was extremely annoying at a lot of points throughout the show, but by the end of Season 6 I could finally appreciate him. Sawyer is a boss though. |
acorncheese
05.25.11 | I fucking HATED Jack throughout most of seasons 3 and 4. But he just totally redeemed himself in season 6.
BTW, my FAVORITE character is Sawyer, even though my ranking doesn't show it. |
aok
05.25.11 | thats honestly a big reason i consider the wire to be better than lost. the wire season 4 is probably my favorite season, and aside from a very brief couple episodes in season 2 that were kindof dull, the series is so consistently amazing that i have to pay it its due.
though always sunny / arrested development are also the best of our generation but so different from the wire / lost that comparing either of the first 2 with either of the second 2 just wouldn't work |
TMobotron
05.25.11 | Jack became cool later in the show, but for the most part he can suck a bag of dicks. He was the moodiest bitch about the littlest things, got pissed about insignificant stuff all the time. Every time John Locke (who by the way is my #1 by far and fucking ruled) tried to even breathe Jack's inferiority complex would kick in. He's honestly just kind of a pathetic person for most of the show. John Locke > Sawyer> Everyone else, I wouldn't be able to order the rest too well.
Also The Wire > * |
acorncheese
05.25.11 | come on dude! everyone knows that it takes more than a couple of episodes to get to know the characters! only then can you fully appreciate the show. |
acorncheese
05.25.11 | you won't be disappointed..........
until the final episode |
acorncheese
05.25.11 | i think that response is generally held by the less than hardcore fans of the series. MOST of the mysteries were explained, but the thing is it got to the point where a simple explanation wasn't enough for anyone. people always wanted it to be a zomgggggggggggwtf!!!!!!!!!!! moment. having said that, it's incredibly obvious that the show was being written as it went along. there are continuity errors and things that don't add up even after the last episode. but none of that is really a reason to not watch it. there's no show i'd recommend more highly. |
onereallysillygoose
05.25.11 | no faraday? |
acorncheese
05.25.11 | 11 :) |
TMobotron
05.25.11 | anyone who expected or even wanted all the mysteries to be answered is a weirdo. Also I heard the epilogue explained a lot (was included on the final season's dvd set), though I never actually got around to watching it. |
acorncheese
05.25.11 | it was pretty cool, but it was literally just ben visiting a dharma station and talking to two employees and they each got a question at the end |
acorncheese
05.25.11 | also, concerning a lot of the mysteries that "weren't explained," some retards don't understand that there was no medium on the show even CAPABLE of explaining them. |
BassDemon333
05.25.11 | btw acorn, I have to agree with you on Kate when it came to the final showdown with the Man In Black, I was like WTF at the writers for that too. At least Jack still delivered the killing blow though. |
TMobotron
05.25.11 | yeah and IMO, it's a good thing for some of the questions to be left unanswered |
BassDemon333
05.25.11 | Exactly. It wouldnt be such a fucking amazing show if they answered EVERYTHING. |

man i feel like i totally fucked my rankings up haha. if i could do it over it'd probably be a top ten and the top five would look different. i tried to simply rank the characters AS characters, not rank them as favorites, but i totally ended up playing favorites with some characters. |
Satellite
05.25.11 | there's literally no way they could've made an ending that would be universally satisfying. it was a flawed way to end the show, but honestly i'm fine with it. |
acorncheese
05.25.11 | ^ totally agree. i have NO problem saying that i was disappointed with the ending, but i actually did love it. it was about as beautiful as it could've been. to be more specific, i was disappointed with the finale itself. it was just so.......hollywood...and predictable. and i'm not going to drop any huge spoilers, but the realization of what the sideways flashes were kind of took the air out of the rest of the final season. but overall, like you, i'm fine with it. |
patrickfannon
05.26.11 | Fuck all the Jack detractors on this message board. The entire show was about Jack's journey and redemption. I was on team Jack from the moment Vincent woke him up in that bamboo patch. I would have put Jack as number 1 on principle, but it's hard to argue that Des is not the coolest dude on the entire show. Other than that, pretty good list.
Satellite, I fully agree with you both regarding the ending. However, I do think they could have made it, indesputably, the best television series of all time if they had gone one more season. The sixth season felt way, way too rushed and the whole, "this show is, ultimately, about THE CHARACTERS," line from Damon and Carlton was sort of undermined by the very plot-driven, streamlined narrative. The Flash-Sideways universe bothers me, but only in as much as I think they should have done it in a 7th season, and allowed some more of the mysteries to be solved and character arcs to breathe in a sixth. I wanted season 6 to be another Flashback season mirroring season 1, but with some characters from seasons 5-6 as well. I want to know more about Eloise Hawking, Faraday, Jacob, Michael, Walt, ancient island inhabitants, and, for fuck's sake, the back story between Ben and Widmore! What the hell was that whole scene about at the end of "The Shape of Things to Come?" What are the rules and what game are they playing? What is the game? I want to know more about Widmore's motivations for attempting to seizie the Island. I also wanted to see the real John Locke alive once more, but, alas, Dead is Dead.
All these trifles aside, I still think LOST is among the best television series of all time. |
Crymsonblaze
08.29.11 | Desmond, Jack, and Locke are definitely the best. I'd put Charlie and Richard a little higher but good list nonetheless |

08.29.11 | Benjamin Linus for the win...
