40 Favorite Albums

These are my 40 favorites as of right now. This is different than what my favorite albums ever are, these are just the one's I'm in love with currently.
40The State Lottery
When the Night Comes

Kind of like Titus Andronicus but with shorter, punchier songs. Oh and with a sweet fucking sax.
39Dinosaur Jr
Bug

I'm finally confident enough to say this is better than You're Living All Over Me.
38Neil Young
Harvest

Once I started to appreciate his voice instead of wincing in pain this became incredible to me. Heart of Gold is a classic.
37Moving Mountains
Pneuma

I still need to check out their new album though I'm not hearing good things which is too bad because this is phenomenal. Great mixture of post rock and indie rock.
36The Lawrence Arms
Oh! Calcutta!

Just a great punk album.
35iTal tEK
Midnight Colour

Really incredible electronic music that's very spacey.
34Trentemoller
The Last Resort

Really chilled out techno/electronica stuff. Very relaxing.
33Boards of Canada
Geogaddi

An album that can simultaneously relax me and freak me the fuck out.
32My Morning Jacket
Z

Right up there with It Still Moves. Dondante is glorious.
31Type O Negative
October Rust

Another great night time album but it's got a darker, gothic sound. It is very melodic and the dude's low voice is very soothing.
30Forest
Like a Blaze Above the Ashes

Black Metal that's got poor production, blast beats, tremolo picked guitars, and shrieked vocals. You know the drill but damn do they do it well.
29Peter Gabriel
So

Peter Gabriel>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Phil Collins
28Kanye West
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

I tried to hate him as long as I could but this made it impossible. also Nicki Minaj fucking kills it on Monster.
27Gospel
The Moon is a Dead World

I enjoy my screamo with post-rock like build ups, also how awesome is the drumming here?
26Wintersleep
Welcome to the Night Sky

Another great night time indie album. Search Party is such a beautiful, somber song.
25Porcupine Tree
Fear of a Blank Planet

A pretty dark album with some great songs that are sandwiched around the 17 minute epic Anesthetize. Sentimental is a great song too.
24Husker Du
Zen Arcade

A punk classic. It's like a punk The Wall.
23David Bowie
The Man Who Sold the World

Been getting into Bowie lately and this is my favorite so far but I still got a lot of his discography to get through.
22Film School
Alwaysnever

The perfect night album. From the opening drones to the epic closer of I Just Turned into a Gas, this album lulls you into a world of great beauty.
21The National
High Violet

So this is my favorite by them. Bloodbuzz Ohio is fantastic.
20Alice in Chains
Jar of Flies

More of an acoustic ep but it is still probably their darkest album. Nutshell is one of the saddest songs ever.
19Manchester Orchestra
Simple Math

I know it just came out but it's hit me pretty hard as being incredible. Maybe somebody it will even dethrone Mean Everything to Nothing.
18GZA
Liquid Swords

I'm pretty picky with what I like as far as rap or hip-hop goes but I really love this.
17CunninLynguists
Oneirology

See 18.
16Boris
Boris At Last - Feedbacker

Loud, abrasive, and droning, but there is so much more to it than that. Really is a trip of an album, and just wait for that killer guitar solo.
15If These Trees Could Talk
Above The Earth, Below the Sky

The way Explosions in the Sky wishes they could sound like.
14The Gaslight Anthem
Sink or Swim

If Bruce Springsteen and Against Me! had music babies. I can never decide if I like this or 59 Sound better.
13Arcade Fire
The Suburbs

Funeral is better but this is the one I've been enjoying more lately.
12Maybeshewill
Sing the Word Hope in Four-Part Harmony

Just heard this last week and already it's one of my favorites. Great post-rock that's harder hitting than you would think with some electronic elements thrown in for good measure.
11My Morning Jacket
It Still Moves

Southern groove rock with plenty of reverb. One Big Holiday floors me evertime I hear it.
10Yes
Close to the Edge

As near perfect a prog album can be by a band not called Rush or Pink Floyd.
9Coheed and Cambria
From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness

SSTB is like my favorite album ever but I've been listening to this more lately. It's darker mood really sets it apart from their other albums. Plust The Willing Well suite is like the greatest thing ever.
8Deftones
Diamond Eyes

It?s arguable what the Deftones best album is, and honestly you can make a case for four of them, but I still contend this is their perfect marriage of heaviness and atmosphere.
7The Tallest Man on Earth
The Wild Hunt

The warm weather brings this album out just as it does the green in leaves. A damn near perfect folk album that embodies the summer time for me.
6Rush
A Farewell to Kings

This Rush kick I?ve been on just won?t go away and that?s ok with me. I actually think Hemispheres is a better album, but the combination of Xanadu and Cygnus X-I being on the same album is kicking my ass right now.
5Bruce Springsteen
Nebraska

Not being a huge Springsteen fan, I decided to finally check out the album bearing my home state?s name as its title. What I got was a dark acoustic album with Bruce Springsteen?s vocals encompassing all the hard work, heart ache, and the overall mentality of us who populate this rural state.
4Modest Mouse
The Moon & Antarctica

Indie rock done right with plenty of emotion, grandness, and hooks.
3Titus Andronicus
The Monitor

So now when I drink I will drink to excess and when I smoke I will smoke gaping holes in my chest.
2Manchester Orchestra
Mean Everything to Nothing

With the release of Simple Math I had to re-evaluate whether I still thought this was better or not. It is.
1Pink Floyd
The Wall

Listening to it again for the first time in a while reminded me of its greatness. Great story telling combined with great music in the perfect balance.
