@Maso: Marine Biology. Schooling is kicking me in the teeth and my scuba lessons are costing me and absolute fortune, on the plus side tho, i just got accepted into this volunteer program today for wildlife up on Grouse Mountain. I'm going to be taking care of the wolf and bear pens and stuff, and i get to help in the rehabilitation program thing, so that is going to be kinda cool. |

Samshine
05.04.11 | @Mas: That's awesome! Did you just go into psych because you were interested in it? Meh, I don't know how well it's going to go over tho.. It's a difficult field to get into, but i've wanted to do it ever since i knew what the ocean was. Right now tho.. my last semester in school wasn't so hot. I don't really know what i'm doing.. just wanna travel tbh.. |
Masochist
05.04.11 | Yeah. I love figuring out the reasons why people do the things they do and why they are the way they are (because its very rarely for superficial reasons). But Psych requires lots of schooling--at least a Masters, or it's almost worthless. I can't see myself staying in school that much longer, TBH....
And I know how it goes with college. But it seems like you're investing a lot into this dream...why let it go now?
(Also...I'd love to do nothing else right now then to travel! Road trips are ridiculously expensive right now, though...)
|
Samshine
05.04.11 | That's true. Well, i'm only 19. I went straight into college after highschool and at this point (after 2 years) I'm really thinking it was a bad idea. I want time to find myself? Cheesy.. but, true. I just, I have no drive right now for schooling. Especially because it's not even about marine biology yet, it's all just pre-reqs like chem, physics and calculus. It's annoying. |
AngelofDeath
05.04.11 | I would highly recommend traveling. Seems like there's a false sense of imperitiveness to rush into college right after high school. |

05.04.11 | Traveling is ace, if it wouldn't cost so much. I wanna go to NZ/Australia again. |
Samshine
05.04.11 | @Angel: Oh man, i know. I kinda regret rushing straight into College, just followed the social norm i guess? Ex-Bf was very adament that i went to post-secondary straight after highschool. Oh, to be 17 and stupid again. Always following what other people told me to do.. never thinking for myself..
And yeah, fuck I wanna go to Australia so bad. Get my masters in scuba there would be wicked. Also really wanna go to Africa for a good 4-5 months and do some work down there. Whole different life down there...you know, Culture Shock, see what it's like. Maybe then I would come home and not find myself complaining about life on a music site to a bunch of people i've never met before. |
AngelofDeath
05.04.11 | Worked in Australia for a month after I got out of culinary school. Was nice when I wasn't actually working. Also traveled across Japan for two weeks during high school. |
Wolfhorde
05.04.11 | Africa has a nice landscape but it's kinda.. well.. "dangerous" in some places. Even without warlords and everyone bashing their heads in. |
Samshine
05.04.11 | @Angel - Really?? That's awesome! One of my family friends went to Auzzy for 4 months i think, blew $10,500 on his entire trip when he was down there (Which in turn was his college money) but said he wouldn't regret any of it. I've seen pictures from his trip and it looks absolutely amazing. I'd wanna get my masters in scuba there and do a bunch of outdoor activities.
@Wolf: Yeah, that's for sure. On top of all the medical dangers aswell, but i guess if I do research and stuff and plan it out well, I should be okay. I've always wanted to go tho, I'll for sure go atleast once in my lifetime.

Masochist
05.04.11 | Australia is a nation I strive to visit one day. At the top of my list right now, though, are the Amalfi Coast of Italy, New England, and Seattle (and by extension, Vancouver).
I've never been to Africa, but I always hear from people who go on mission trips that it changes your life perspective...not simply because you're around people who have so little, but because you're around people who have so little and yet they're happier and nicer than most people who have so much more.
And just because we haven't met in real life doesn't mean you don't have an audience here. And it definitely doesn't mean that we don't care about it ;-). |

05.04.11 | Past and future don't mean shit to me.. All I care about is living in the moment, doing what I need to do and doing what i want to do. I'm a lowkey, chill dude so a chill low key life is all I need. |
Wolfhorde
05.04.11 | @Sam: Well, I'd also like to go there if I can sort out the dangers. But I also want to travel around almost the whole world. |
Samshine
05.04.11 | @Mas: New England would be pretty sweet. Meh, Vancouver and Seattle aren't that special. Maybe it's just because i'm used to living in Van.. The only nice thing really is that you can be skiing in the morning, and by night be on the ocean. |
