The Orphanage
The Shining
28 Days Later |
Remer17
04.19.11 | The Descent's my favorite horror movie, but probably not the scariest (although it's good for quite a few scares). |
letsgofishing
04.19.11 | 1. Jesus Camp
2. The Exorcist |
WatchItExplode
04.19.11 | Poltergeist |
WatchItExplode
04.19.11 | that movie with John Cusak and Samuel L. also, what is it 403 or something? |
Hawks
04.19.11 | Don't know what it would be for me now, but when I was a little younger The Changeling was the scariest thing I've ever seen. Still kinda freaks me out. My favorite horror movies overall are House of 1000 Corpses and the original Halloween. |
omnipanzer
04.19.11 | "High-school Musical" Hands down no competition. |
vanderb0b
04.19.11 | Perhaps not the scariest, but The Shining has always been my favorite horror movie. |
wabbit
04.19.11 | Most scared I have ever been of a movie was planet of the apes when I was 5 or 6...I was sure we were going to blow it up |
Yotimi
04.19.11 | Idiocracy. Eerily realistic |
Electric City
04.19.11 | were you making a joke about donnie darko not being scary? cuz its not a horror... |
SpottedTrout
04.19.11 | The Orphanage is awesome |
Sanders
04.19.11 | Ju-on is creepy as fuck, Japanese kids are the scariest kind of kid. |
TMobotron
04.19.11 | anyone else think the exorcist aged terribly? that movies just laughable now IMO. Watched it with my dad who was all about how scary it was and it was just pretty lol to me |
combustion07
04.19.11 | Jacob's Ladder. |
ConsiderPhlebas
04.19.11 | The Blair Witch, when it first came out.
Nightmare on Elm Street
The Exorcist
Seven
Paranormal Activity, in places |
Hyperion1001
04.19.11 | [REC] was the all out jump out of your seat scariest movie i've ever seen.
Not the best horror movie though. |
iSkane
04.19.11 | Paranormal Activity was tense, not scary. Same with the second. The scariest movie I've seen is The Exorcist, but my favorite scary movie is Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream. |
beefshoes
04.19.11 | The Blair Witch Project was pretty awesome.
I thought The Strangers was pretty decent but I am not a fan of the genre whatsoever. |
AngelofDeath
04.19.11 | The Exorcist makes me laugh so hard. |
Hyperion1001
04.19.11 | Troll 2 best movie ever.
Ever seen the first one? |
AngelofDeath
04.19.11 | Yeah, I think it's hard to be genuinely scared by movies beyond the jumpy shit. But as far as horror movies go, I like pretty much everything Rob Zombie's done and you can't go wrong with some of the flicks from the '80s like Evil Dead. |
ConsiderPhlebas
04.19.11 | Didn't find PA tense in the slightest. Some of the uncanny imagery made me feel unsettled, though. |
Yazz_Flute
04.19.11 | Leprechaun in the Hood:

Hyperion1001
04.19.11 | I love the horror genre and i admit freely that [REC] made me not go upstairs at night for a few days.
The Evil Dead trilogy rules, as does Romero's work. |
Wolfhorde
04.19.11 | "The Exorcist makes me laugh so hard."
Horror movies in general make me laugh. I mean, "Rise of the Reeker". Seriously, a guy is running around with half his head wrapped in a plastic bag. |
Strider
04.19.11 | Troll 2 wasn't even lolbad, it was excruciatingly painful to watch |
Hyperion1001
04.19.11 | Die. |
combustion07
04.19.11 | troll 2 rules |
Dementia
04.19.11 | sex and the city 2 |
Dementia
04.19.11 | and 1 obviously |
Abdar112
04.19.11 | Insidious is the scariest one I've seen recently. Also, I've never cringed as much from watching a pretty gruesome part in Antichrist. |
Abdar112
04.19.11 | [REC] was also good, if you don't like reading subtitles check out Quarantine (American remake that is just about shot for shot an American copy of [REC]) |
Pilgrim
04.19.11 | Begotten |
UnnamedOcean
04.19.11 | I've never seen a movie that truly scared me. The Exorcist might have come the closest. Most scary movies only make me cringe because of how unnecessarily gruesome they are.
Although a few of my favorites would have to be The Shining, Scream, and Dead Snow (a Norwegian movie about Nazi Zombies). |
Thane
04.19.11 | evil dead |
eternium
04.19.11 | I hate to be that guy to name a movie that just came out but honestly Insidious is the only movie to ever scare me and I've seen most of the movies already mentioned. |
PayneTiger777
04.19.11 | White Chicks
The makeup is just way too freaky for me.
Oh yeah, and Session 9 is pretty freaky as well. |
Snowball
04.20.11 | Jacob's Ladder. [2] The whole concept of the film is so disturbing. |
Snowball
04.20.11 | Also, big fan of Halloween and original Dawn of the Dead but I wouldn't put them in the "scariest movie" category. |
TMobotron
04.20.11 | drag me to hell was fucking incredible |
Vesper
04.20.11 | Most horror movies age really badly because the effects look so dated, so it just can't scare you when you aren't convinced.
J-horror flicks like Ringu or Ju-on, for example, look stupid because the undead people have lavender corpse paint and the CGI is laughable.
Then there's the gruesome stuff that makes you cringe but once you're out of the theater, it doesn't stick.
28 Days Later has probably held up the best for me.
Actually, this isn't horror, but The Talented Mr. Ripley creeps me out a lot. Also, that bum behind the diner in Mulholland Drive. |
MO
04.20.11 | Problem is movies arent really scary anymore. You grow out of them. But when I was younger, Halloween, IT, Jacob's Ladder, original Texas Chainsaw |
DiceMan
04.20.11 | Jacob's Ladder
Insidious
any Sam Raimi film is worth watching (simply for laughs and maybe to get grossed out a little)
Audition
Se7en isn't necessarily scary but it is really tough to watch simply because it's so fucked up
Bone Collector isn't necessarily scary either but it's a great suspense flick with Angelina Jolie and Denzel Washington (if I remember correctly). |
Samshine
04.20.11 | I know i'll probably get ripped to shreds saying this (and i'm sorry if someone already mentioned it, i havn't read the comments yet) but paranormal activity 1+2. Seriously, i still can't sleep with my feet out of the blankets. |
AngelofDeath
04.20.11 | Yeah, the whole thread was about how they're both gay. |
North0House2
04.20.11 | I think Eraserhead is pretty creepy... but more creepy than scary. |
kingjulian
04.20.11 | Favorite horror movies are Blaire Witch Project and The Thing. Blaire Witch for serious awesomeness. The Thing for 80's awesomeness. |
kingjulian
04.20.11 | And geez, Fourth Kind was freaking bad so please watch all of these recs. |
Samshine
04.20.11 | @andcas: lol stfu, it scared the shit out of me. |
ConsiderPhlebas
04.20.11 | The first Paranormal Activity was creepy. Number two was lame. |
TMobotron
04.20.11 | i dont even like scary movies much but i thought the paranormal activity movies were pretty good |
EyesWideShut
04.20.11 | The Exorcist will be the all time scariest film ever but these are creepy and disturbing too !! and where the hell is Sputnik Horror god Combustion ??
Antichrist
Audition
Martyrs (super creepy)
28 days later |
ConsiderPhlebas
04.20.11 | The paranoia in The Thing is great |
kingjulian
04.20.11 | Yeah, definitely rent The Thing. It's sort of corny in that way that's standard with 80's horror movies, but seriously it was so ahead of its time. The special effects are phenomenal.
BTW. Anyone heard about the prequel that's coming out in October?!?! |
ConsiderPhlebas
04.20.11 | Yes. Might be ok, but not too hopeful. |
kingjulian
04.20.11 | I'm warily keeping my hopes up. They're using all practical, non-CG effects as much as possible, which is pretty awesome. What's also awesome is the fact that anything that IS CG will be done by the same company that did District 9, which looked pretty amazing most of the time. I've read interviews and stuff and it seems like they're being pretty reverent of the 1982 version. We'll see. |
thebhoy
04.20.11 | fucking Suspiria.
Also 28 Days Later, The Descent, and Night of the Living Dead (yes it's campy and dated, but I love it) |
