ButcheredChildren
03.29.11 | LOL open C, yah I am in F#
we are worlds away |
bloc
03.29.11 | Only guy I know who does that is Devin Townsend. It seems to be good for getting big thick sounding chords but that's about it imo. |
ButcheredChildren
03.29.11 | isn't open C just C-Standard? |
bloc
03.29.11 | It's CGCGCE or something like that
Personally, I'm loving D# |
GhettoIndieshit
03.29.11 | A/G# for me |
ButcheredChildren
03.29.11 | I think SOAD tuned to that once for a song on Toxicity, not entirely sure though
that's a really obscure tuning, I don't see why you wouldn't just tune your guitar to B and play the notes a few frets over. |
OutOfMyself
03.29.11 | i play medium on guitar hero 2 |
AnotherBrick
03.29.11 | I definitely need to mess around with different tunings. besides standard/drop d/drop c and now this, i really havent messed around with them. |
37er00
03.29.11 | 2 is out??fuck yeah |
acorncheese
03.29.11 | Elliott Smith - Independence Day |
ButcheredChildren
03.29.11 | I just gave up bothering to tune my guitar lower so I bought an 8 string.
I lock all the strings once I've got it tuned to F#BEADGBE.
I can play anything I want and all I have to do is change the strings once ever month. |
Trebor.
03.29.11 | Drop A# kicks ass
Check out American Football. They use a lot of weird tunings |
bloc
03.29.11 | Pshh, drop-D and C are for amateurs ;) |
Ovrot
03.29.11 | Drop A |
LegendofPittman
03.29.11 | Standard all the way for me. I rarely experiment with tunings, even though I would like to. |
ButcheredChildren
03.29.11 | A standard is pretty fun to play in and a lot of bands use it. |
Trebor.
03.29.11 | Drop FAGFAG is the best |
bloc
03.29.11 | Same, I stick with one tuning only because of my damn floating bridge... |
beefshoes
03.29.11 | I tune my 7 string in
GCGCGCE for a lot of the recordings I do but I prefer Open B tuning.
|
ButcheredChildren
03.29.11 | G is so unnecessary, if you're going to tune that low you might as well get an 8-string |
bloc
03.29.11 | Perhaps, but why shell out 1000+ bucks for an 8 string when you can pay 10 bucks for some super heavy gauge strings, no? |
AnotherBrick
03.29.11 | i'm definitely a fan of this tuning. quite fun. AND FUCK YOU BLOC. DROP D AND C IS FOR PROS |
Gnocchi
03.29.11 | Standard B. |
Winsomniac
03.29.11 | Because metal as fuck on a budget just sounds less edgy. |
Trebor.
03.29.11 | I so lazy I put my guitar in Drop D and tune the music up to D |
ButcheredChildren
03.29.11 | "Perhaps, but why shell out 1000+ bucks for an 8 string when you can pay 10 bucks for some super heavy gauge strings, no?"
uhm....
http://www.rondomusic.com/8StringGuitars.html
8-strings there as low as $500 and you can buy packs of strings specifically for 8-string guitars on the same site. It's where I bought my Agile from. |
Gnocchi
03.29.11 | 7 strings too? |
bloc
03.29.11 | I know I know, but I'm just saying there are other ways. |
ButcheredChildren
03.29.11 | rondo sells 7-strings, 8-strings and 9-strings as well as 12-strings

Trebor.
03.29.11 | Damn that is fat as hell |
Gnocchi
03.29.11 | i just figured with 9 different guitars i don't have enough difference in tone. |
ThyCrossAwaits
03.29.11 | nope, but listening to that song now |
bloc
03.29.11 | Looks delicious |
ButcheredChildren
03.29.11 | I have alright tone on my guitar, it sound slightly murky because that's what sound mahogany wood produces. The sustain is nice through I use the EMG's that came with the guitar and get about 10 seconds before the note fades off |
scissorlocked
03.29.11 | needs moar strings |
ButcheredChildren
03.29.11 | idk if you guys have ever used multi-scale guitars
http://www.rondomusic.com/MultiScaleGuitars.html
if you are a prog kind of person they are amazing for arpeggio sweeping and all that good stuff |
Gnocchi
03.29.11 | i usually focus on a dirty choppy sound that suits my rhythm work. high gain, almost no middle works well with my triplet gallop work. |
Trebor.
03.29.11 | I've never seen guitars like that before |
twlight
03.29.11 | august burns red plays all their stuff in c im pretty sure.
i play a lot of guitar and drop C is definitely good for metal but not much else |
Gnocchi
03.29.11 | some blues sounds better in c standard. |
beefshoes
03.29.11 | ABR uses Drop C, not Open C.
And yes, the low G is definitely necessary. lol |
WhiteNoise
03.29.11 | I've flirted with the tuning but only to play hippy music on my accoustic. Fun tuning for sure and your can get some dramatic sounding noises happening. |
twlight
03.29.11 | yeah i read it wrong i thought you said drop C not open C
never played in open C before.... |
