03.28.11 | You pretty much described my life. Only I don't have a job anymore lol. |
BigHans
03.28.11 | Dude youre never going to know what youre doing. Unless you get lucky and fall into stuff, which alot of people do. Most people struggle pretty much their whole life. |

03.28.11 | i guess all you can really do is make the best of it. |

03.28.11 | Shit just seems to fall in to place at some points of your life. I spend my entire high school career trying to put my life into a somewhat complacent order to no avail...low-and-behold 3 years later, I have a great job, a fiance, and a house. and I'm only 20 as well (turning 21 in October). I'm a lucky guy though, and I don't dispute that.
Point of my story is don't get too down...you never know what tomorrow holds. |

03.28.11 | I may only be 17, but I kinda know what you mean lol. It sucks, I have no idea where to go, and all my friends have themselves figured out, I don't even know what college to go to... What sucks is the fact that all of my passions would prove to be low income jobs. |

03.28.11 | I'm 22 and had no idea what I was going to do/really worried about finding work after school. Just started looking around in my field and ended up knowing someone who needed help with a project, so like Hans said, I fell into it so to speak. Got in that way and now I'm chillin at a job I love. It takes time, I got lucky to find something so early. As much as I never wanted to admit it, knowing people is a great way to find work/get wedged in. Keep in mind too that the internet is where everything's headed, so I'm sure you'll find something. |
Remer17
03.28.11 | Most of those people you think have set plans will likely not stick to those plans. Life usually doesn't work that way. Most people don't get where they need to be right away. I have a bachelors and I'm going back to school to get an associates in the field I feel I belong in. It may sound backwards but it's what I feel I have to do. Keep your head up and always be open minded. |

Lol, well, according to scientists, massive solar flares are hitting in 2012... Like, it's fairly certain. So, no one knows what'll happen then, but it's assumed that it will completely fry the grid. based on that, if you believe it, those people who only know how to do stuff on the internet won't know where to go... Either way, I think manual labor is the way to go. But, I'm old fashioned. |

03.28.11 | @Remer 17 I was considering pursuing a journalism degree but, as you said, everything is going online. Some of the fields are inevitably going to dry up and become obsolete. |
Scoot
03.28.11 | and shit like that is fucking worthless from what I've heard. |
Remer17
03.28.11 | Well I'm not the one who said everything's going online but I do understand fields becoming obsolete. Hell, I was a Music Industry major. Can't get much more obsolete than that. |
SloppyMilkshake
03.28.11 | First year of college, and I definitely feel ya. I went in choosing Pre-Secondary Education as my major, but now I've been wanting to change it to English or journalism. I have no idea how financially viable either of those would be though (I doubt very much at all). At the same time I sorta wanna go to film school. |

03.28.11 | as if a solar flare will disable any electronic system as important as the internet for more than like a day |

03.28.11 | I'm lucky enough to be well suited in my life. I didn't waste my time as a teen, fuck tv. I haven't done college yet but I don't need it. |

03.28.11 | I'd say art history's more useless but that's just me. |

03.28.11 | Funny you mention that Scoot...because I was also considering that for a minute because I've always been interested in art and my History of Modern Art class is amazing.
I need to get my head outta my ass. |

03.28.11 | What's one industry that will never go out of business?
Condom manufacturing, because people will always want to have sex.
I should major in that, that's recession proof, right there... |
MO
03.28.11 | I guess the thing to keep in mind is that you're never going to not do anything. Unless you're just a useless tit. So you'll find something/anything to sustain yourself and then things'll go from there, but that's more like a last resort. |

North0House2
03.28.11 | If I ever went into music, which I plan to at least dabble in, I'd just do it as a hobby... I don't think most musicians make much, unless they're popular in the mainstream. |
MO
03.28.11 | "I'd just do it as a hobby"
That's what I've been doing. So fun to jam and play shows. |
fr33convict
03.28.11 | Unless you get some really fancy shmancy major label backing being a musician does not pay the bills really at all. |
North0House2
03.28.11 | I'm figuring that...
But yeah, totally, as a hobby all the way to go lol

03.28.11 | My best friend and I (known him for 15 years) are in our mid thirty's and have no college education. We make more than most the people we graduated with by building experience in carefully selected jobs and a little bit of luck.
Here is a little free advice for all the kiddies in Sput-land:
Never burn your bridges and get some recommendations from previous managers,
FUCK listed qualifications as I've never met the list and yet I've gotten almost every job I've ever set my sights on,
build a network of friends that are headed in the same direction as yourself,
never be afraid to get a leg up from a friend and always be ready to reciprocate or pay it forward,
always get a new job before you leave your old one,
Never be afraid to talk to someone that is already in the position you want to move into. People love to talk about them selves. Show a little knowledge and buy them a beer and the info will flow like a font.
always always always move up in the job you take (financially) and make sure that every job you take adds a marketable skill you can put on our resume
oh, and most importantly... be a good employee for the time you are employed. I don't think that should need to be mentioned but you'd be surprised.
Do that and the rest should sort itself out. ;^) |

03.29.11 | I kinda feel obligated to do college and everything because my parents pay for private school every year but honestly would rather move out to DC and just try and get into politics as an aide or something and go from there.
Connections are definitely the way to get decent jobs so try chilling at the frat house where the people wear polo shirts. That's the rich people frat and they probably have hella connections. If you can seduce them, you're in. Nepotism also works, so bum around a successful person pretending to be their friend in hopes of acquiring a decent job that you're not qualified for or pays good because he's your friend and makes concessions for you. |
