03.17.11 | that's what he did. |

03.17.11 | I liked the first one quite a bit. But I reckon you could've put a bit more effort into the texts/fonts.. |
Jruined
03.17.11 | It gets better once you build your font library, and learn how to used the filters to accentuate an image, not make them.
Good book on design elements and composition that applies to everything is a the Non-Designers Design book. Not a PS book, but it covers ideas (weight, rythm, balance of forms, etc.) that will make your images work well. |

03.17.11 | I like Piranhabird. |

03.17.11 | I've started using photoshop like last week so Im pretty much discovering the effects |
Jruined
03.17.11 | Once you get the hang of it, I bet you won't find yourself touching the filters much at all. I don't know many graphic designers that use the filters for anything more than adding a little glitz to the finished image. I don't use them at all myself, outside of the sharpen, blur, and noise filter for atmospheric effects.
It's like the vignette filters that I see everyone throwing on their photos ever since the digital slr cameras have become affordable. They are meant to accentuate images not make them.
Have fun with it man, it really is a great program as well as illustrator which you might find even more useful. |

03.17.11 | Studying Graphic Design, I don't use filters either other than to add finishing touches to images. |

03.17.11 | Do you work in Graphic Design or something related Jruined? |
Jruined
03.17.11 | I'm an illustrator. My wife is an intern architect (not licensed yet)/graphic designer. Quite a few friends that work in Graphic Design and Photography. I should add my wife is the bread winner at this point. I've been working freelance for just over a year, and although I'm luckier than most people starting off (I'm actually getting paid) it's sloooow going. Next year should be interesting with a number of projects coming to fruition.

03.17.11 | I really don't know where to start to make something almost out of nothing.. |
Jruined
03.17.11 | Do what you are doing... I'd say go out and take some of your own photos and work with them. Get you into the process of it more so than using the work of others. Try collage with the photos, warping them, tweaking saturation of color levels, manipulating them so they are turned into something else entirely or draw attention to areas of interest in them through the manipulations. Try working the text into the images so they aren't just words on a page, but an integral part of the image.
I'd say ignore the filters for now, and play around with the adjustment tools under Image and the Transform tools under Edit. Play with the lasso and selection tools. If you want I have a good photoshop tutorial from a class I took a while back that I can scan and send to you if I can find it. It's a good introduction. |

03.17.11 | Congratulations on finding the fucking filter tab in Photoshop. |

Strider
03.17.11 | Well I'm not saying I have any, I only started using it because I have a project to do and they asked us to make cover art and ads... |
SharkEthic
03.17.11 | Actually my post is a pretty direct way of saying that his skills are non-existent. |

03.17.11 | strider- no sweat man. I suck at photoshop too I always end up painting dicks over everything

03.17.11 | Keep playing around with it man - you will get better. Just like others have said, try to avoid the filters. If you are serious about it I'm sure you could take a course of some sort. Otherwise keep it up, always great to see someone creating rather than attempting to shat all over someone's hobby... SharkEthic.... |

03.17.11 | Strider: I'll look for it later tonight after dinner and beer. I'll let you know if I can find it. It's a good primer that gives a solid foundation to work from. If you have questions too, just shoot them my way and I'll answer them if I can. There are some really good tutorials around online as well. |

03.17.11 | Thanks =p |
