03.02.11 | Yeah. |
Inveigh
03.02.11 | epic fucking list mang
but I thought we solved this mystery already -- Pac's been living and recording in random's basement for a decade and a half now |
BigHans
03.02.11 | shit I forgot to implicate random |
Inveigh
03.02.11 | but on the topic of how their careers would have played out (always been a little fascinated by that aspect)
I think they were equally likely to end up as self-parodies... I mean, Biggie was associated with Puffy, who probably would've tried to give him a role on Making the Band -- but Pac was so damn prolific that he would've ended up saturating the market with mediocre material and could've easily gone the way of Eminem (plus there's the Dre connection).
interesting shit |
BigHans
03.02.11 | Its hard to say, because if Pac hadn't died, he would have had way more control over how his material was released. All of his posthumous albums have like 2-3 absolutely killer cuts, and the rest is pretty much meh at best. I'm pretty sure he would have had some say in how they were packaged, in the way they were packaged, not to mention the fact he would have kept working on new material. I mean, if you really look at the period of Me Against the World through his death, thats only like a two year span, and he came up with at least 50 straight up awesome songs in that time period. So who knows. |
MO
03.02.11 | They both were phenomenal MCs. Definately a shame to lose both.
"I love it when they call me big papa, I smoke blunts if they rolled propa"
"5 shots couldn't drop me, I took 'em and smiled" |
Hawks
03.02.11 | All I can say is I fucking love both. Definitely agree about the whole Suge and Puffy thing, fuck both of them. Pac and Big both would've still been on top if they were alive. Sad that they couldn't have remained friends like they were at first. |
BigHans
03.02.11 | I am probably one of 5 people on this site that can really remember what it was like when these two got shot. Most of you were probably anywhere from 3-7 years old. |
Hawks
03.02.11 | Yeah I was like 4 haha. |
Inveigh
03.02.11 | I was 11/12 so I remember it pretty vividly, though I can't say I had heard much of their music outside of California Love, Big Poppa and Juicy |
MO
03.02.11 | I remember it pretty well cause my brother was a huge Pac fan. He's alot older than me so I really looked up to him and did what he did. I remember watching it on the news with him. Sucks so much. |
BigHans
03.02.11 | I still remember clear as day exactly what I was doing when I heard about 2pac. my best friends mom, the whitest person that has ever lived, just randomly said "did you guys hear some rapper named 6-pack got shot last night?" We were just starting a 4 hour car ride, and this was 1996 so its not like I could fire up the internet on my mobile, so I was in agony until I found a newspaper. lol. |
Athom
03.02.11 | Both are horribly overrated. Biggie is the better of the two. Tupac is alright but all his beats sound like fucking slow jams and bore me to tears. |
BigHans
03.02.11 | God damn it Adam Thomas |
Inveigh
03.02.11 | idk I do feel like their legends grew exponentially after their deaths and Pac's music in particular hasn't aged all that well (the same can be said for a lot of the rap from that era -- especially with the g-funk influenced beats)
but that being said I love them both and even hearing songs that I might not have necessarily heard in the 90s gives me an awesomely nostalgic feeling. longing for the simpler days when life wasn't such a bitch lol |
BigHans
03.02.11 | I can understand the whole "overrated because they are dead" argument, because I use it all the time, but I don't apply it to these two because I was there when they were huge, and was an enormous fan of both before they died. I wrote like a 12 page paper on Pac for my English class like a month after he died, lol. |
Inveigh
03.02.11 | I just mean we never got to see them tarnish their legacies (if they were ever going to) because they passed away first.
Imagine if someone (ICP? lol) shot Eminem right after he released MMLP -- he'd be considered by a lot of people to be the greatest MC ever probably. obviously that's hypothesis, but that's really all we can do with that kind of argument. |
BigHans
03.02.11 | lol ICP, but that is a good point. Oh suck it Violent Jay....... |
Hawks
03.02.11 | Give it back to Jay he was suckin' it better! |
omnipanzer
03.02.11 | Not even going to read this thread... just poping in to say Fuck ICP.

BigHans
03.02.11 | I saw ICP live in 98. It was legitimately awful. |

03.02.11 | Did you get hosed with faygo and have some juggys lick you clean? Because that would make a good story... kinda. If juggy's were not perpetually pregnant and nasty. |
BigHans
03.02.11 | I actually did get hosed with Faygo. I was fucking pissed, it ruined one of my shirts. |
omnipanzer
03.02.11 | Juggalette sorry for the typo ^ that would fucking enrage me lol |
Aids
03.02.11 | great, great list. I call for a feature. Biggie has always bugged me though, I think I'm more of a new wave hip hop kinda guy. |
BigHans
03.02.11 | thanks Aids |
Inveigh
03.02.11 | I'd say this is def worth a feature |
AggravatedYeti
03.02.11 | 100%
list is awesome Hans. |
BigPoppaDiesel
03.02.11 | Great list. I was in Vegas when Pac got shot and in Cali when hip hop lost Biggie. The shit freaks me out to this day. There music has grown past their deaths and I think for their short time plus how fickle the rap game is, we got their BEST work. They rightfully became legends for literally living and dying for hip hop.
"I am probably one of 5 people on this site that can really remember what it was like when these two got shot. Most of you were probably anywhere from 3-7 years old." I'm probably one of the other 4.
|
GhettoIndieshit
03.02.11 | I'd say this is def worth a feature [2]
2 is so good. 3 has too much filler and is kinda shallow compared to Me Against The World |
omnipanzer
03.02.11 | list is Awesomehans |
BigHans
03.02.11 | Damn Diesel, you are bad luck, lol. I was in rural Minnesota at the time, haha. |
Inveigh
03.02.11 | man that's so weird. I was in Vegas, at the MGM Grand for the fight Tyson bit Hollyfield's ear off, which was only a few months before Pac got shot |
BigHans
03.02.11 | you saw that fight? awesome. |
Inveigh
03.02.11 | nah didn't see the fight, my dad did though. I was 11, chillin in the hotel room. dad was a gambler back then... |
BigHans
03.02.11 | Feit if you come in here and blast Pac I'ma kill you |
DaveyBoy
03.02.11 | I'm one of the 5 old enough to remember. Ugh, what a waste x2. Personally, I preferred Tupac, only because he had the much much better voice. If he was still alive, I'm unsure how strong his career would still be, but I'm fairly certain B.I.G would be doing what Diddy & Mase ar doing now. |
KeithStone582
03.02.11 | Pac got me into rap, and I still haven't heard anything better than him. Biggie came close though, so did Nas. |
AggravatedYeti
03.02.11 | ohhh Ma$e...mo money mo problems. mo god too apparently. |
Counterfeit
03.03.11 | oh hi. I won't blast him, but I will say he's vastly overrated. In every single way. Bumping MATW right now though. As for if they didn't die, Big would have died like Pun in a few years anyway. Ha, but seriously it'd prolly be similar to how Jay-Z is now.
And Pac, I dunno, but it would probably be similar to Bob Dylan's career. lotta awesome but a lot of fucking shit too. even though all his post-humous is like that anyway, he'd just be alive. |
BloodSweatandBeers
03.03.11 | such good MCs |
somberlain
03.03.11 | "Who knows how great they could have been, or if they would have wound up being a parody of themselves"
rappers have a relatively short shelf life and both these guys would be irrelevant by now if they were still alive, it happens to the best of them (see Jay-Z) |
EyesWideShut
03.03.11 | i find Pac overratted for the most part. His softer songs are great, but the "gangsta" stuff is just generic and how many pac songs do you hear then The Outlawz come and ruin it.
BIG's the king and for me disc 2 of Life After has some amazing stuff. |
MUNGOLOID
03.03.11 | still remember when i cruised around with my uncle while playing the Life After Death cassette tapes. chill times. |

03.03.11 | The first House Party destroys all of the othres.
Thanks Buccaneer, you're right. |
Maniac!
03.03.11 | Kurt Cobain was murdered, fo realz.
tehehe |
BigHans
03.03.11 | I don't believe he was murdered, I believe being forced to shack up with Courtney Love might drive almost any man to suicide, let alone someone already prone to manic depression and a herioin addict. |
MUNGOLOID

AggravatedYeti
03.03.11 | yeah, noticed that too. These newfangled users couldn't make an engaging list if they tried. We need a return of TMF. |

Inveigh
03.03.11 | lol oh TMF

03.04.11 | Mmm..acting, I love some good acting. The one getting the reference gets a cookie. |
Chrisjon89
03.04.11 | I saw a movie with Tupac the other night. Gridlock'd I think. He actually was pretty good. As far as the music goes I don't mind the material he did when he was alive but the posthumous stuff to me is mostly thrown together trash with flavour of the month producers and beatmakers. Never really listened to Biggie.
Me Against the World and the 7 Day Theory are interesting cos you don't often see that vulnerability in rap music. As far as hip-hop goes though I prefer ATCQ, Mos Def and De La Soul these days. |
MUNGOLOID
03.04.11 | he was really good in Juice too. |
BigHans

03.04.11 | I wouldn't trust the surest shot in the world to cap somebody sitting right next to me. If Suge did plan to have Pac killed it sure as hell wasn't like that.
^ Thats the only thing that gives me pause. IMO everything else points to him. |
BigHans
03.04.11 | Lets not talk about that Chambered |
BigHans
03.04.11 | Suge also lied about "having a bullet lodged in his brain," when it turns out he was only grazed. |
BigHans
03.04.11 | 1. Suge was a gangster, so understanding how his brain works is foreign to you and I
2. He owed Pac a shitload of royalites
3. Pac was threatening to leave Death Row, just as Dre had pretty much just done.
4. Dying is the best way to sell a shitload of records |
BigHans
03.04.11 | Thats the other theory. |
BigHans
03.04.11 | Sadly I've seen the morgue photos. Its something I can't unsee. |
HalfManHalfAmazing
03.04.11 | Why do you think Suge had Pac killed?
|
Uranium
03.04.11 | Profit |
HalfManHalfAmazing
03.04.11 | How would he profit seriously Pac was his only asset by summer '96 |
HalfManHalfAmazing
03.04.11 | Pac wasn't ever going to leave Deathrow and just because Suge had a 'motive' that doesn't mean he did it. |
HalfManHalfAmazing
03.04.11 | You are also ignoring the fact Pac beat the shit out of a known Crip member at the MGM Grand's lobby like half an hour before his death |
Uranium
03.04.11 | Most of Pac's songs when he was alive were violent and antagonizing. A great deal of his pothumous were trying to be positive, inspiring, revelational, etc., but weren't released maybe because of fear of 'going soft'. Possibly Suge knew he could release all these songs for pure profit on DeathRow if Pac was out of the question to deny their releases. |
HalfManHalfAmazing
03.04.11 | The point is this Suge's alleged involvement is all speculation, nothing really directly connects him with the murder and besides, wasn't he a few inches away from Pac when they opened fire on the car
|
BigHans
03.04.11 | the main point of the Pac/Biggie murders is why was no one ever arrested? Especially in the Big case, several eye witnesses put a few shady cops (who were on Death Rows payroll) at the scene, and one of them fit the description of the gunman. Yet they werent even questioned. |
omnipanzer

03.04.11 | lol @ Mos Def being a good actor, have you ever seen 16 Blocks? one of the few instances a single performance nearly drove me to suicide
Ice Cube you could make a case for, but he's certainly sullied that image lately. Still, that's a legit answer. |
BigHans
03.04.11 | Mos Def defined the term "wooden" in 16 Blocks. And yeah, Cube has had some good parts, and was damn awesome in BoyZ in the Hood and the first Friday, but I don't see much range in him. And yeah, Are We There Yet kills his credibility. |
AggravatedYeti
03.04.11 | Mos is an alright actor. Better in the comedic realm I'd say. 16 Blocks was fucking stupid though. |
