Aids 02.19.11	Holy shit my record collection is really starting to kick ass.
Aids 02.19.11	oh and just so you guys know, the kanye record is a limited edition triple record edition edition you know when you say a word enough that it starts to sound weird? "edition" what is that shit?
Aids 02.19.11	why am I a strange man Xeno?
Maniac! 02.19.11	I love you for 1 and 2. Wanna make out?
OutOfMyself 02.19.11	Also love you for 1 and 2, lets make it a three-way
Aids 02.19.11	ok. Me, Maniac, and OutOfMyself are gonna go fist each other. Xeno, you can join when you explain why I'm a strange man. (yes, I realize how ironic that statement is haha)
Maniac! 02.19.11	I am having sex with aids, what could go wrong?
foreverendeared 02.19.11	Jesus that's a lot of money you spent on just 5 records.
AngelofDeath 02.19.11	I have 2 and 5 as well. Bout to order 4 soon. Wasn't actually anticipating on buying 2 when I got it, but for $13 I couldn't pass it up.
Irving 02.19.11	Okay, so I'm a bit of a n00b when it comes to vinyl...but do humour me. How is a vinyl recording different from a digital one? Does it sound clearer? Louder? Faster? Enlighten me, aids! =)
Aids 02.19.11	Xeno - 1 - fuck I know. I now cannot afford to do anything fun for, like, a year. 2 - I try. butsecks coming. Irving - The quality is much, much higher and the volume difference between the loud and quiet parts is much larger. I used to hate audiophiles who would only listen to vinyl, but I'm starting to see their point. Listening to something in 192 kbps or less just hurts my ears now. I'm such a fag.
sifFlammable 02.19.11	hillary-ous
Aids 02.19.11	"Jesus that's a lot of money you spent on just 5 records." for the record (haha), these were all new. The Kanye one is 3 records and was $39 and the Sufjan one is a double record and was a little bit more expensive as well, but the others were ~$20, which is pretty standard for a new record. I haven't bought used in ages now. So when you think about it, I got 8 records, not 5. Yay me!
Aids 02.19.11	Hahahhahaa I have no idea who you are, but that was awesome.
FilthyBorgir 02.19.11	You bought a vinyl for a Kanye West album? That's one big lol. I wouldn't be even surprised if most of his fan base even knew what a vinyl was.
AngelofDeath 02.19.11	Hip-hop's made a big comeback on vinyl in the last few years.
Aids 02.19.11	haha yah I felt a little bit ridiculous buying it. "Oh man, Kanye just doesn't sound right without the warm crackle of vinyl in the background." But whatever, I'm loving the reemergence of vinyl and how you can get pretty much anything, not just jazz and classical, in this format which, not too long ago, looked like it was about to die.
FilthyBorgir 02.19.11	@Angel Really? I didn't know that.
Irving 02.19.11	Thanks aids - great answer =) However, do vinyls have a limit to the number of plays they can take? Cause, you know, you're actually spinning the actual record itself.
AngelofDeath 02.19.11	It takes a very long time for vinyl to wear down enough to effect the playback. And if you are rich enough to afford a laser turntable, you never have to worry about it anyway.
FilthyBorgir 02.19.11	It's probably best not to play a vinyl to much so it won't lose it's quality. If I ever buy a vinyl it'd be for display and occasionally play it but I'd have a back up copy whether mp3 or cd. EDIT: just scratch out about what I said about playing it not so much, Angel clearly knows more about them.
Aids 02.19.11	If you take proper care of your vinyl, the sound should never change. You know, don't let it get scratched etc. Also, humidity is really bad for records. More than half of my parents' collection was warped from being in a damp basement for decades. But other than that, they should stay mint condition forever. I listen to my parents old records from time to time (from the 60s-80s) and they sound wonderful. Listening to an album on vinyl is like listening to a standard 320 kpbs audio file with really, really nice headphones, the difference is honestly that noticeable. Unless you download FLAC or Apple Lossless or some other hella-compressed format. In fact, I'm pretty sure that most FLAC files start from vinyl rips.
Aids 02.19.11	make sure you needle doesn't pick up dust and junk, that's the biggest way records get damaged. Angel clearly knows his shit. I didn't know that it was possible to wear down a record but I guess it makes sense seeing as the needle actually touches the plastic. I'd never heard of a laser turntable. I want one O_O haha
FilthyBorgir 02.19.11	Interesting I've learned a lot about vinyls.
Irving 02.19.11	Dammit now you've got me intrigued. How much does a record player cost? (for a decent one, and on average - I know there's a whole spectrum of price ranges)
AngelofDeath 02.19.11	Me too, but they run like $5,000-10,000. It's mainly for radio stations and rich audiophiles. There's also another pretty expensive device that just came out that can reduce crackle and pops in the vinyl in real time.
FilthyBorgir 02.19.11	That's way to much money just to play music imo. Like I said, I'd use them for decorations/display of my favorite albums.
AngelofDeath 02.19.11	I need to get some frames for a few of my covers, but I intend on listening to the records; that's what they're for. Even the rare shit I have (Agalloch, Ulver, etc.).
Aids 02.19.11	you can get a good used turntable for cheap if you look hard enough. I'm still in the market for an actual stereo system and proper turntable. at the moment, I only have that Ion device that rips digital copies of records. So, it's playing through the sound card of my computer which means that the quality is a little bit lower but not by much. and Irving, a vinyl collection is an absolute MUST if you want to become a total hipster. *takes a drag from his Marlboro and ironically pops the collar of his flannel shirt"
Aids 02.19.11	oh holy shit I did that huge rant and forgot to mention that my "turntable" was under $200. I don't plan on spending more than $1000-$2000 when I eventually decide to upgrade to a real system (which won't likely happen until I move out, fucking soon hopefully).
Irving 02.19.11	Shit I wanna be cool like you Aids!!
Jash 02.19.11	records are the fuckin way to go!
Aids 02.19.11	"Shit I wanna be cool like you Aids!!" others have tried, it is impossible. You can try though, knock yourself out.
mothercountry 02.19.11	canadians deserve to get raped on vinyl prices. nice list, btw.
LegendofPittman 02.19.11	Very nice list, but I got about 10 records the other day for less than that much. lol One of those happened to be worth $200.
liledman 02.19.11	yeah thats a pretty expensive haul, though i just payed $50 for a record online so i cant talk. i get suckered in too easily with this shit.
Aids 02.19.11	"canadians deserve to get raped on vinyl price" why? and I'll reiterate: none of this was overpriced in the slightest. I just need to learn to say "when." I get raped by vinyl stores all the time.
liledman 02.19.11	australians get raped on shipping prices, never complain about vinyls costs you guys.
Aids 02.19.11	I'm not complaining at all. Apparently I deserve to be overpaying for vinyl though and I'm not sure why.
mallen- 02.19.11	would love to have 1 and 3 on vinyl
Aids 02.19.11	would love to have you on vinyl ;-)
