Irving - The quality is much, much higher and the volume difference between the loud and quiet parts is much larger. I used to hate audiophiles who would only listen to vinyl, but I'm starting to see their point. Listening to something in 192 kbps or less just hurts my ears now. I'm such a fag. |

for the record (haha), these were all new. The Kanye one is 3 records and was $39 and the Sufjan one
is a double record and was a little bit more expensive as well, but the others were ~$20, which is
pretty standard for a new record. I haven't bought used in ages now.
So when you think about it, I got 8 records, not 5. Yay me! |

If I ever buy a vinyl it'd be for display and occasionally play it but I'd have a back up copy whether mp3 or cd. EDIT: just scratch out about what I said about playing it not so much, Angel clearly knows more about them. |

02.19.11 | If you take proper care of your vinyl, the sound should never change. You know, don't let it get scratched etc. Also, humidity is really bad for records. More than half of my parents' collection was warped from being in a damp basement for decades. But other than that, they should stay mint condition forever. I listen to my parents old records from time to time (from the 60s-80s) and they sound wonderful. Listening to an album on vinyl is like listening to a standard 320 kpbs audio file with really, really nice headphones, the difference is honestly that noticeable.
Unless you download FLAC or Apple Lossless or some other hella-compressed format. In fact, I'm pretty sure that most FLAC files start from vinyl rips. |

02.19.11 | Me too, but they run like $5,000-10,000. It's mainly for radio stations and rich audiophiles. There's also another pretty expensive device that just came out that can reduce crackle and pops in the vinyl in real time. |

02.19.11 | you can get a good used turntable for cheap if you look hard enough. I'm still in the market for an actual stereo system and proper turntable. at the moment, I only have that Ion device that rips digital copies of records. So, it's playing through the sound card of my computer which means that the quality is a little bit lower but not by much.
and Irving, a vinyl collection is an absolute MUST if you want to become a total hipster.
