7 Reasons 1994 Was The Year Of Black Metal

1994 was one hell of a year for black metal. Wanna argue? Here's my proof:
1Behemoth
And the Forests Dream Eternally

This was Behemoth at their black metal best. This EP is imagery in its truest form. It puts you into the greying forest show in the cover art. A prime example of what Behemoth was formed to be.
2Mayhem
De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas

Mayhem's debut album is perhaps the hardest piece of music I have ever come to love. Incredibly unique and well put together, its unfortunate that their start was also their pinnacle.
3Emperor
In the Nightside Eclipse

Another incredible debut from a band who was significantly more successful. This excellent (if often grammatically incorrect) album is easily one of the best black albums ever made.
4Darkthrone
Transilvanian Hunger

Perhaps the last of Darkthrone's truly great albums. With this album, they had mastered the art, while still remaining raw and creative. A dark, depressing trek through Hell. What a piece.
5Burzum
Hvis Lyset Tar Oss

Easily the greatest album Burzum ever made, this incredibly atmospheric and ambient work is one of the greatest albums ever made, regardless of genre.
6Enslaved
Frost

This is a great album, but this isn't the best part...
7Enslaved
Vikingligr Veldi

BAM! Two amazing full length albums in one year. Who the hell does that? And does it well? Enslaved's music pulls you right of reality and throws you into the cold, grey winter plains similar to those on Frost's cover. Two incredible albums in one year. What a feat...
