Fav 3 Of 2010

Well, there were a lot of surprises in 2010 and quite a few disappointments, but all in all I decided to base my "top of 2010" list on the albums that really kept me coming back. In the end, that sadly came down to THREE albums. Some of the albums I was really looking forward to did not keep my attention (though one did, Alcest.) I'm not saying these are technically the BEST of 2010, they are just the ones that I got the most enjoyment out of. So here you go, nice and simple:
1Alcest
Ecailles De Lune

This one doesn't need an introduction - but I can't praise it enough. Neige
really struck a chord with me with Ecailles De Lune. It is musically stunning,
lyrically deep, and very well produced. Plus the album artwork is beautiful.
What more could you ask for?

Forthcoming Displeasures

Of all of the metal albums this year, this one has spent the most time in my
CD player. It isn't exactly original, but it is doom metal done right. There are
a couple tracks that drag near the end of the album, but most of it is
excellent. I hope this band gets some attention on Sputnik in the years to
come (this is their debut.)
3A Cosmic Trail
The Outer Planes

Another debut, and another surprise out of nowhere. I found this band on
MySpace in the comments section of another band. I found their name
intriguing and figured they'd probably be a typical unsigned MySpace band
with terrible production and a dire need for practice. Lo and behold, they
are a killer instrumental prog outfit with a great sound, and an amazing
level of diversity. There is a lot to love on this album and I highly
recommend it to anyone who likes progressive, metal, rock, guitar solos,
synthesizers, saxophones (okay there's one), or just music in general. It's
really that approachable.
