| Best Thursday Songs | 1 | Thursday Autumn Leaves Revisted
Purpose. Clarity. Creativity. A devastating and amazingly executed song that strikes at the heart of loss. "Please take me there." | 2 | Marches and Maneuvers
A perfect testament to Thursday's style. Developed landscapes of sound, poignant and purposeful lyrics, and emotional "punch-you-in-the-face" screaming, accumulating into one of the coolest endings in recent memory. "Can you hear voices in the traffic? Communiques in the attic? They say after time, all of this will heal, we will rebuild and these broken arms will mend themselves in our embrace." | 3 | Concealer
A short song, but containing amazing elements. The end is a post-hardcore wet dream. "As if you wanted to change the way I look at you..." | 4 | For the Workforce, Drowning
Explosive. Grabs you by the shirt and doesn't let go. I have friends who still talk about the tempo-shifting bridge in the middle, which occurs as Geoff whispers the murderous promises of everyday middle-class living in your ear. "Please take these hands, throw them in the river, wash away the things they've never held." | 5 | Sugar in the Sacrament
As with any Thursday song, the lyrics are jaw-dropping. The conclusion of the song, which portrays Geoff emotionally shouting "This is all we've ever known of God!" sends shivers down my spine today. | 6 | Asleep in the Chapel
Personally, my #1 song about religion. The guitars are beautiful, the bass in weaving, and the message is clear. "Someday we'll be complete like martyred saints, baptize our kids in gasoline, and hang our doubts up in cathedrals so that they turn to faith in the colored sunlight." | 7 | As He Climbed the Dark Mountain
The instrumentation is extremely fun to listen to, as the drummer, guitarists and bassist stay busy and energetic. "Climbing, he plunged right off the end of his life, into the hands of a loving god, or a raging void where we gets torn apart? " | 8 | In Silence
The only instrumental song on the list. Post-rock-ish rapid picking combined with amazing effects. Amazing to listen to. | 9 | War All the Time
Some find it too "emo", but the lyrics are heartfelt and well-written. The undulating guitar in the background of the song should not be ignored. "The sun doesn't rise, so we'll replace it with an H-bomb explosion or painted jail cell of blood in the sky. All the nightmares on Tv meant to sing us to sleep. They burn on and on..." | 10 | You Were the Cancer
The middle portion of this song is one of my favorite moments in music. Synth, shifting call and respond guitars, and then an amazing bass line. "It's the blood from the neon sign, trying to light a way through your insides. Make a map of the badlands, watch your life slip through your hands. They're not for shaking. They're not for praying. They're just for holding close everything you love in this fragile little dream." | |

12.11.10 | tomorrow i'll be you should totally be on here ^^ | Iamthe Nightstars
12.11.10 | I love that part in Concealer. Another favorite part is in Division Street where the music stops and Geoff says "I drew an x on your cities name". | Athom
12.11.10 | we share the same #1 but for me the rest of the list is a lot different. | TheyTookErrJobs
12.11.10 | 9 is awesome
You could have put more songs from full collapse on there...... | cb123
12.11.10 | no jet black new year? i loveeeee that song | KTLL
12.11.10 | Guys, this was a really hard list for me. All of the songs you mentioned got consideration, especially Tomorrow I'll be You, Division Street, Jet Black New Year, and Where the Circle Ends (from Waiting).
At the end, I looked at the list and realized there was little Full Collapse. I love the album (and will be at the show in which they play the entire album), but I feel as if they became the band they wanted to be later in their discography. | JWT155
12.11.10 | No Autobiography of a Nation? Best fucking Thursday song. | Iamthe Nightstars
12.11.10 | too bad they were the band they should have been on their first two [2] | DoubtGin
12.11.10 | CROSS OUT THE EYESS.. | SCREAMorphine
12.11.10 | War All The Time and Autobiography Of A Nation are personal favourites | Leatherneck
12.11.10 | where the fuck is Paris In Flames | KTLL
12.11.10 | Autobiography should actually be on here....I'll call that a mistake.
All of the rest are just pushing Collapse too hard. It was a fantastic, groundbreaking album, but the fact that you're not even considering these other songs might means you possibly didn't get them the time of day. | KTLL
12.11.10 | *give, lulz
And I'll argue with anyone that WATT was a superior album to FC (both are probably better than the others) | dawija3
12.11.10 | full collapse and war all the time were definitely the most original from the band...it sounds like after war all the time they must've switched studios or recording engineers because the mixdown on following albums is nowhere near the same quality | JWT155
12.11.10 | WRITE THESE WORDS BACK DOOOOOOOOWWWN INSIIIIDDEEE. | KTLL
12.12.10 | Some people dig the low-fi sound of their last couple albums, but I am not among them. Island (label) saps creativity, but at least their songs didn't sound like shit coming through my speakers.
jwt: best moment in that song:
Is this what you wanted to hear?
(is this what you wanted?)
(IS THIS WHAT YOU WANTEDDDD?)
(IS THIS WHAT YOU WAAAANNNTTTEEEDDD?)
