| Bloc's Diamonds In The Rough 2010
The following is a list of single (mostly) songs from albums that were either okay or just plain crap this year. However, each of the songs in the album descriptions were fantastic hence the term diamonds in the rough. So no, this is not a Deftones shoutout. | 1 | | Slave Republic Electric One
My Maker. Pretty picky with this style of music (dance/electronic rock?), but when done right, she is good. | 2 | | With Life In Mind Grievances
Self-Righteous. I think there's some part at the end that kicks ass, can't remember for certain. | 3 | | Namnambulu Distances
Deception. Now THIS is some real futurepop. Song is easily one of the best I've heard all year. | 4 | | Wynardtage A Flicker Of Hope
White Frost and Hurricane Age. It's funny because usually this guy excels in hard hitting up-tempo harsh ebm, but this time it's the two SLOW songs that kick ass. | 5 | | Abandon All Ships! Geeving
Megawacko2.1 and Geeving. The fuck ya gonna do Sputnik? Nothing. | 6 | | Combichrist Making Monsters
Follow The Trail Of Blood. Who knew an industrial song with that guy from Bleeding Through would be good? | 7 | | James Labrie Static Impulse
Euphoric. I think it's just the pre-chorus or something, it rules. | 8 | | Linkin Park A Thousand Suns
Blackout. Really good song. I particularly like the chopped up vocals in the bridge. The song actually gets worse when Mike starts "singing", but still enjoyable. | 9 | | Code 64 Trialogue
Progenitor and Oblivion (Seeds of Utopia III). Again, futurepop done well. Not as good as 3, but decent. | 10 | | Miami Horror Illumination
I Look to You and Summersun. Again there's that dance rock kinda thing in both of these songs that I like. | 11 | | Orbs Asleep Next to Science
Both Northwestern Bearitories. Pretty surprised to see no love for these 2 songs. | 12 | | Digitalism Blitz
Blitz and Stratosphere. This one's a bit unfair since the rest of the songs are just a couple of Blitz remixes, but they really suck. | 13 | | AktiveHate In Terrorem
Mixed Feelings. Harsh ebm....okay...With CLEAN VOCALS. WHAT. Song of the year for me. So damn good. | 14 | | Ashbury Heights Take Cair Paramour
Unbearable Beauty. These guys usually rule, but this album was terrible. The song however is absolutely perfect synthpop. A very awesome use of vocoders in this one. Easily another one of my favourites of the year. | 15 | | Voicians EscApe
Loner. This guy is pretty much a Celldweller clone. | 16 | | Parkway Drive Deep Blue
Wreckage. Really great song. | 17 | | Society's Plague The Human, The Canvas
Transcend The Throne, Mourning Sun. Both average metalcore tracks, but I think each has this really good part with a bass drop. | 18 | | A Kiss Could Be Deadly Farewell
I Can Be Your Anti-Hero, Baby; Metro. Both of these aren't great, but certainly better than the rest of the album. | 19 | | Forgiven Rival This Is A War
The Grey, Like the effects of the Wind. Again, standard metalcore. | 20 | | Shiv-R Hold My Hand
Map the Feedback. I had high hopes for this album, but even THIS track ain't that good. | 21 | | Beati Mortui Let The Funeral Begin
Vision of Hell. As if the song title hasn't been overdone in harsh ebm, still a great song despite that. | 22 | | Mind.Area Long-Distance Side Trip
New Word. This song sucks, why is it here? Well, it's okay. | 23 | | Lost Area Memoria
Guardian Angel. OKAY, hold the FUCK up. Now THIS is the song of the year. Absolutely perfect. Okay no, it's tied with that other one. | 24 | | Fractional Blood
Ofue. Pretty cool breakbeat track. | 25 | | System Syn Strangers
God and Country. Awesome futurepop track. | 26 | | Upon A Burning Body The World Is Ours
Carlito's Way. Easily, the biggest headbanger of the year for me. Tons of groove, and tons of fun. | 27 | | De/Vision Popgefahr
Time To Be Alive. These guys usually suck, but not this time. | 28 | | Before Their Eyes Untouchable
Hey Dude and Hell or High Water. The first one has a good chorus, while the second has an awesome OH OH OH OH breakdown near the end. | 29 | | Delphic Acolyte
Counterpoint. Great dance-y song. | 30 | | Spektralized The Puzzle
Fire. This track isn't that great either, but it's funny because Spektralized released an EP last year and one of the songs on it was one of my favourite tracks of 2009. | |

12.09.10 | Come at me boys | Willie
12.09.10 | 7 and 8 are pretty cool. 8 made my top 25, actually. There's something really cool about that whole album (except the closing song). | TheSpirit

12.09.10 | Hmmm, 10 is supposed to be the Miami Horror album yet it shows art for Tristania. I've never even heard that album!
Well Win, the album is certainly terrible. It's just those 2 songs that are great. | Winsomniac
12.09.10 | They have a tendency to do that. 'So In Love' was about the last song I listened to by them, and I'm not really proud of it, lmfao. | bloc

12.09.10 | 17 is pretty generic, but a couple of cool junny breakdowns. Definitely check it out.
Haha, I was thinking about Diamond Eyes to this list, but that has 4 "diamonds" on it! | Winsomniac
12.09.10 | Not gonna lie, some demon is cursing me away from Deftones. For some stubborn reason, I just don't wanna bother. Heard a few songs at a live set a while back and just meeeehhhhh. | AnotherBrick

12.09.10 | System Syn | bloc

12.20.10 | There he is | y87arrow
04.05.21 | bloc, Check out "Dare To Dream" (2006) by Lost Area, it's an EP, 7 original songs and many great remixes after those. I remember spring 2007 when I often listened to them, it's still great.
Also why is Hurricane Age on A Flicker Of Hope? It was already on Praise The Fallen (2007), well a slightly different version...
Distances by Namnambulu is good, but I am not a fan of the vocalist, he oversings on most songs and it's too often about love, but "Pause" is an amazing song.
I just think the vocals in futurepop music don't need to be technically perfect, I rather like them cold. | SteakByrnes
04.05.21 | this list is 11 years old bro | y87arrow
04.05.21 | Yeah so what? I still listen to A Flicker Of Hope (Wynardtage) sometimes by the way, it's not like I'm not allowed to listen to 2010 albums or commenting on them because they're "old". Also I made a recommendation in my comment for bloc... | bloc
04.06.21 | Thanks for the rec y87, I will add it add it to my listening queue. I didn't know they even had an EP.
And agreed with the futurepop vocal style. They sound best when they're more on the monotonous side. |
