Irving
12.05.10 | I had to urban dictionary that term Josh D., haha. |
Josh D.
12.05.10 | Oh. |
OutOfMyself
12.05.10 | Irving, out of curiosity, are you just of Malaysian ancestry/heritage, or do you actually live there? |
Irving
12.05.10 | I'm of Malaysian heritage, was born in Malaysia, and lived there for most of my life. However, at the moment I am in Canada for my undergraduate degree, and will return home either at the end of my B.Sc (which is in six months) or in mid 2012 - after I complete a Masters (still waiting on application results though).
So there you go :) |

12.05.10 | Im gonna make a list called Sputnik Americans. all white people post there |
OutOfMyself
12.05.10 | Oh I see, that's cool man! How's Canada compared to Malaysia for you? |
kangaroopoo
12.05.10 | slight contrast in humidity |
Irving
12.05.10 | I love this place. I can tell you straight up that I'll be very sad when the time comes for me to leave. The weather is a huge challenge though - Kangaroopoo actually got it a bit right. When I first arrived in Canada (Ottawa, specifically) it was early September and it was 15 Celcius. I couldn't stop shivering (in Malaysia it never goes below 25 C). The stewardesses told me I was in for some rough times. Haha. |
Irving
12.05.10 | Also, OutOfMyself, where are you from? =) |
OutOfMyself
12.05.10 | Ahh so there's a *slight* contrast between the climates ;)
And I'm from the plain and boring United States hahah |
Bitchfork
12.05.10 | I'm from Malaysia too!
not. |
Jethro42
12.05.10 | Bienvenue au Canada, Irving. |
Bitchfork
12.05.10 | Montreal I suppose? Hmm I went there to see The National and Of Montreal alongside a few other bands. |
Irving
12.05.10 | So no secret underground Malaysian community eh? As I suspected =( |
Jethro42
12.05.10 | Damn Straight, Montréal, the hotbed for music. |
Jethro42
12.05.10 | We also are the best public. |

12.05.10 | my hooker is malaysian |

12.05.10 | I think Kiran (Kirgasm) has some affiliation with Malaysia. Dont take my word for it though. |

12.05.10 | this reminds me of zoolander |
Mordecai.
12.05.10 | but in all seriousness a girl that i frequently sex with has Laotian heritage. Laos is somewhere near there i'm sure |

12.05.10 | It's like saying North Dakota is near Louisiana-ish. |
BallsToTheWall
12.05.10 | Sure she's not a she-boy ehh Mordy? |
Mordecai.
12.05.10 | my north American geography is terrible. All i know is that LA is on one side, New York is on the other and in the middle are rednecks and republicans |
Mordecai.
12.05.10 | "Sure she's not a she-boy ehh Mordy?"
well if she is, credit to her surgeon because her pussy is crisp |
Bitchfork
12.05.10 | "in the middle are rednecks and republicans"
no
in the great lakes area it's not that bad |
Mordecai.
12.05.10 | haha i was just kidding. they are the only american cities i've been to that's all. i'll go back soon and see the rest. It's a pretty great country. |
Bitchfork
12.05.10 | Just go to Massaschusetts it's perfect. |
Mordecai.
12.05.10 | on the list |
BlueW
12.05.10 | Indonesian, close enough...
No??? |
PurpleDrank
12.05.10 | can malaysians get the internet? |
FilthyBorgir
12.05.10 | Only a few can |
Photon
12.05.10 | i know a few Malaysians in my Research group at Uni ..are you a Malay or (Chinese /Indian ethnicity Malaysian) ? just asking |
StreetlightRock
12.05.10 | Lived there for six years and I got a bit of the blood running in me. Awesome country. |
FilthyBorgir
12.05.10 | I'm not Malaysian, just saying not many may have Internet because it's mostly rural. But then again I could be wrong. |
Kiran
12.05.10 | "I think Kiran (Kirgasm) has some affiliation with Malaysia. Dont take my word for it though."
yep! my mum's malaysian. i have family there and was there a lot while i lived in singapore not too long ago! are you from KL, irving?
also, just fyi, malaysians do have internet, yes |
Irving
12.05.10 | @ Photon: AHA. So you do know something about our social demographics. I'm Chinese Malaysian, although IMHO, all those racial lines should be completely abolished. It's stupid and silly - at the end of the day we should all be countrymen, so what does it matter if we have different backgrounds?
@ StreetlightRock: AHA[2]. Where did you stay during your six years? KL?
@ FilthyBorgir: Oh come on man have a better opinion of us. More than a few of us can access the internet. That said our internet service providers suck big time and sometimes it feels like we're not getting internet at all.
@ BlueW: Indonesian is definitely close enough =) |
Irving
12.05.10 | Yeay Kiran!!! So there's at least HALF a Malaysian on Sputnik! But I take it you're...Swedish?
I'm from Malacca, a state two hours south of KL. You say you still have family kicking around down there? Are they in KL?
Final, most important, question: speak any Malay? =) |
seifer
12.05.10 | atleast there are some malaysians here dont think there's anybody from my country here |
Irving
12.05.10 | @ Mordecai: Yup, Laos is to the north of Malaysia. We border Thailand, which in turn borders Laos.
@ Uhhkris: Don't get me started on Zoolander. You know I had to come to Canada to see it? It was banned in Malaysia lol. And when I saw it I partially understood why it may have been banned - we look like North Korea in that movie.
That said it was a fantastic conversation starter during my first month in Canada. |
Irving
12.05.10 | Where you from seifer? |
seifer
12.05.10 | mauritius a rock in the middle of an ocean |
Irving
12.05.10 | Oh LOL yeah probably not eh? Only one way to find out though: DO A LIST. Haha. |
Kiran
12.05.10 | they're all over the place actually! an uncle in malacca, some out in penang, but most in KL, yeah. i'll actually be in KL this january come to think of it.
and i unfortunately don't speak any malay! i was born and raised in sweden so i didn't really get much exposure to my malaysian half until i moved out to asia around 14-15! |
seifer
12.05.10 | yeah but that would be waste of time i dont think there's anybody from even africa |
FilthyBorgir
12.05.10 | @Irving I was referring to the country Malaysia not the race, and Malaysia is mostly rural, so not as many would have internet. But I could be wrong on the internet access over there, it's just an assumption. |
Kiran
12.05.10 | filthy, the strong majority of the population live in cities |
Irving
12.05.10 | OH LOL you even have family in Malacca. COOL! Small world, I guess =) If I may ask, is your mum ethnically Chinese Malaysian? (I make this guess because all three of the places you named have relatively high Chinese Malaysian concentrations)
Say hello to Malaysia for me when you go in January! I haven't been there in a year and a half, and I miss it dearly. And here's a quick Malay lesson for you: Kiran hebat. There; I just told you you're awesome. Haha! |
FilthyBorgir
12.05.10 | Your right, I'm wrong, I'm not going to argue over this. |
Irving
12.05.10 | Second Kiran's comment. That said, our internet provider is pretty shitty. So Filthy kinda has a point, I guess? That's what happens when a single company (TMNet, in this case) has a monopoly. |
Kiran
12.05.10 | my mum's ethnically indian but my uncle and both aunts have married chinese malaysians, so the family is a big mix!
i'm really looking forward to going back, it's always so nice coming from europe. i miss living out in south east asia! when are you going back? |
Irving
12.05.10 | LOL WOW you're probably more Malaysian than me, judging by the mix of genes you got kicking around in your family hahahahaha.
I'm coming back in mid-2011, maybe. I finish my B.Sc then, and if I don't get approved for a M.Sc I'll be heading back; if the M.Sc thing works out then end 2012 will be my return date =)
So this is the official census result: there are 1.5 Malaysians on Sputnik. That's 0.5 more than I thought there would be. HAHA! =) |
StreetlightRock
12.05.10 | Yeah, KL. Petaling Jaya to be exact =) Mum's family is all still there too - they're Chinese Malaysian too (yeaahh Kirk!). I miss the food =( Boleh chakap siket. I probably spelled that completely wrong. |
Irving
12.05.10 | HAHAHAHAHAH YEAY!!!! BOLEH CAKAP SIKIT! =D =D =D!!! You have done well, sir.
Where are you from now though, StreetlightRock? |
Kiran
12.05.10 | good result if you ask me! if you count streetlight, we could maybe even up the tally! |
FilthyBorgir
12.05.10 | Any Eastern Asian food is so good. Like Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Vietnamese, ect.... |
StreetlightRock
12.05.10 | Terimah Kaseh! I pretend to be Australian nowadays. Live in Sydney where I was born (so I guess that makes me actually Australian) and go to Greece occasionally to visit the other side of the family (I know right...). So I'm pretty much like everything. You in KL too? |
Irving
12.05.10 | INDEED. TWO Malaysians it is then!
@ Filthy: Indeed. OMG HUNGRY. OM NOM NOM. |
Kiran
12.05.10 | nasi lemak, beef rendang, asam laksa, so delicioussss |
FilthyBorgir
12.05.10 | I'm craving Chinese right now, any one else. |
Irving
12.05.10 | @ StreetlightRock: I'm actually in Canada at the moment, studying for my B.Sc, but I'm originally from Malacca! I did my high school in KL though! It's an amazing city, but I may be biased =)
@ Kirgasm: OM NOM NOM NOM NOM!!! |
StreetlightRock
12.05.10 | Mmm...Satay with peanut sauce, cucumber & rice, Stingray and (decent) Roti Prata, (decent) Char Siew Fan and (decent) Hainanese Chicken Rice are the other ones I miss too. Aggh. And Melacca is like a food paradise. |
Irving
12.05.10 | Damn you two are like Malaysian cuisine connoisseurs. You're beating me at my own game here. Erm, roti canai! Teh tarik!!! |
Kiran
12.05.10 | oh trust me, when i'm there, i don't stop eating.
huge orders of chicken satay and peanut sauce used to be my staple sobering 3 AM hawker centre meals, alex, pure heaven |
StreetlightRock
12.05.10 | Yeaahhh boi. Last time I was there we had everyone watching an Arsenal vs. Liverpool match at like that time and just because we could we were smoking shishas as well. So damn cool. |
Irving
12.05.10 | WARGH we should all have dinner together at a hawker stall in KL.
It also sounds like a good set-up for a joke: "So a Swede, an Australian, and a Malaysian all go into a bar...." |
Transient
12.05.10 | i'm from sri lanka :) |
8bit
12.05.10 | Man, there has to be some Malaysians on here! |
Photon
12.05.10 | @Irving ..yeah i was just curious to know. I am Indian (studying in the UK ) .had some Malaysian food the other day some Nasi Lemak (sorry if i spelt it wrong) was really nice :) |
theacademy
12.05.10 | now is called: 'anticop FUCK THE POLICE' |
Irving
12.05.10 | Your spelling is spot-on, Photon =)
And hey that rhymes. |
BigTuna
12.05.10 | this is a pretty cool list
I just always assume everyone on Sputnik is a WASP |
Irving
12.05.10 | ^HAHA |
cvlts
12.05.10 | know any good Malaysian hardcore bands? |
Mordecai.
12.05.10 | irving cock is hardcore |
cvlts
12.05.10 | you'd know |
Mordecai.
12.05.10 | you wouldn't |
cvlts
12.05.10 | nope. thnx for the rec though |
Irving
12.05.10 | I actually can't recommend you any, mainly because I'm unaware of them. The Malaysian hardcore scene (if it exists) is probably rather new and doesn't get much attention yet. However if I come across any I'll be sure to let you know. |
starry
12.05.10 | I've tended to prefer older Malaysian music like the Alleycats. I wouldn't expect that many people outside of a few Western countries to be on this website, mainly because of the kind of people that dominate this site. |
BigTuna
12.06.10 | explain oh starry one |
Irving
12.06.10 | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1GS04a78Gk
These are the Alleycats. They are a Malaysian band that perform much in the vein of Air Supply, but in Malay.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alleycats
^ For further information.
Also, starry, where you from? I am impressed you have heard of the Alleycats. |
BigTuna
12.06.10 | no, I wanted the starry one to explain what he meant by this statement:
"I wouldn't expect that many people outside of a few Western countries to be on this website, mainly because of the kind of people that dominate this site." |
Irving
12.06.10 | Ohhhhhhhhh....k k. Sorry BigTuna. I'll leave that to him then. |
starry
12.06.10 | I'm from Britain, but I've listened to music from all over. |
Irving
12.06.10 | Including in Malay? Me = impressed. |
starry
12.06.10 | Well on the internet you can listen to things from all over, and I have no hangups about listening to music in other languages. I don't claim to be an expert on Malay music but I try to find the best classics or newer music for everywhere I can. For modern music in south-east Asia I like Thai music the best. I don't know if it's popular in Malaysia, I have heard it is popular in Laos, Cambodia and Singapore. |
Prae
01.03.12 | Thai music is actually popular in Singapore? I'm Thai and that's the first I heard of that lol... Interesting. Which bands? |
theacademy
01.03.12 | i might be? what is malaysians? |
tkxxx7
01.03.12 | Did you guys hear that new song Niggas In Sputnik |
