| | 10 Best Dark Tranquillity Songs | | 1 | Dark Tranquillity ...Of Melancholy Burning
From 1995's "The Gallery" this has to be my favorite song ever written, its so heartfelt and crushing yet it still manages to be highly melodic. Hands down DT's finest track. | | 2 | Monochromatic Stains
From 2002's "Damage Done" this song was the first DT song I heard and a classic work of theirs, being everything which defines what this genre is all about. | | 3 | Alone
Going way back to 1993's "Skydancer" this really is a great song. Even though In Flames' Anders Friden is at the mic, this song is perhaps the best "heavy" ballad ever produced, being so atmospheric and full of sadness and hate this is just plain awesome. This track was re-recorded with Mikael Stanne on vocals on their next EP "Of Chaos And Eternal Night", on which it's entitled "Alone '94" | | 4 | Lost To Apathy
From 2005's "Character", the track which defines what some call DT's best attempt in a decade is a mind blowing mix of fast paced guitar work with the electronics in the background which blend seamlessly into their music. | | 5 | Insanity's Crescendo
From 1997's "The Mind's I" this is probably their longest track to date. Clocking in at 6:52 this song takes music to a whole other level, combining the excellent female vocals which open the song, the acoustic work, and the heavy vocals and guitars into one awesome track worthy of being on this list. | | 6 | Away, Delight, Away
From their ground-breaking (and perhaps most significant) release, 1994's EP "Of Chaos And Eternal Night" is the first featuring former guitarist Mikael Stanne as frontman, this track opens with the best riff they have ever released, rivaled only by "Monochromatic Stains". | | 7 | Punish My Heaven
Also from 1995's "The Gallery", this is the opener which sets the stage for DT for the next 10 years. This is the first song many of heard from them, and it is an awesome one to listen to if you want to get the feeling of just what DT is like. This is probably my favorite song that they performed live at the show I saw. | | 8 | The Wonders At Your Feet
From 2000's "Haven" this is the first CD where electronics are fully used on every song. It is a turning point for DT, as they enter their post-Haven era where they are today. Cool synth effects begin it, before the DT most are familiar with comes in, this also has a sweet guitar solo in it, one of the few that DT lay down. | | 9 | White Noise/Black Silence
From 2002's "Damage Done" this song really is unique in the way its placed. It's the second to last track, yet probably the second best on the CD, it begins with a really heavy in you face riff and doesn't really let up for the whole song, this one is a stroke of genius. | | 10 | Shadow Duet
From 1993's "Skydancer" this is the only track of its kind from DT. It features 3 vocalists on it, all swapping verses on the mic, backed by sweet riffing and awesome drums. Anders Friden, Mikael Stanne, and a femal vocalists all take turns singing and screaming here, making a really, really enjoyable song and one which will you will immediately like. | |

02.15.07 | I only have Character by these guys, and it's a great listen. "Focus Shift", their new song, would be on here for me. It's mind-blowing.
My favorite by them would have to be "Am I 1?" | Eakflanderyof
02.15.07 | Lost to Apathy is an excellent song. I've only heard a few songs by these guys though and I was impressed, but so far I think IF is still better. | Doppelganger
02.15.07 | Dark Tranquillity > In Flames | Eakflanderyof
02.15.07 | No way | Altmer
02.15.07 | no "one thought?" | jrowa001
02.16.07 | dark tranquility and in flames are both equally awesome even though i tend to listen to in flames more often. you should check out the band The Duskfall | Crysis
02.16.07 | If this list were to continue, I would put "On Thought" as my #11, it missed this list only by a small margin.
And I've heard the Duskfall, they're pretty good, but nothing really special. |
