11.19.10 | Jealous that you get to see Mae on their last tour, hope they're not on hiatus for too long | Sowing
11.19.10 | i also want to see relient k some time. maybe the two will go on tour together? "relient mae"? | Eko
11.19.10 | relient k is honestly not that spectacular live. they dont really perform at all, just play. i thought mae was breaking up after this tour, is that not right? | Eko
11.20.10 | concert mini-review: way too many openers, mae finally got on at 10 and played for 2 hours. they had some cool lighting on stage that made it look like stars were on the ceiling like the album art for evening. started with bloom, which made me very happy, then moved on to anything and embers and envelopes. played a ridiculous amount of songs, like 20 i bet. they played like 2/3 of everglow, like 4 tracks on destination beautiful, and like 5 from their ep's. very few if any from singularity. when they played breakdown elkins lead the boys and girls in different singing parts, and when he showed the girls' part he used an incredible falsetto that he never used recorded and it was phenomenal. first 10 songs were incredible, but then they started playing like some b-list tracks that werent necessary. somewhere in there though they had an instrumental break where elkins played xylophone and the used lots of guitar distortion so i briefly felt like i was at a post rock concert, which was kinda neat. cant remember what the original set list ended with, but the encore went destination beautiful, we're so far away, someone else's arms, and finally the fisherman song, which is my favorite mae song and was a really epic ending. they were really good though, one of the better live shows ive seen a while. talked to their keyboardist after though and he implied that this would likely be the end of mae. he said they were "moving on" and were going to be playing individually some. he didnt rule out a reunion but didnt suggest it at all. got a sweet tshirt and (e)vening. | seifer
