11.19.10 | half of these are good half are over hyped beyond belief. |
Aids
11.19.10 | Neil Diamond and Simon and Garfunkel are hella overrated. In my opinion of course.
Supertramp needs some more love around here though |
reaganomics777
11.19.10 | Supertramp is fucking genius. Half of this list is overrated dad-rock garbage though. No offense, I just think a lot of "classic" 20th century music is terrible. |
sniper
11.19.10 | These albums all suck.
And don't tell me what to do. |
Edwin
11.19.10 | Hell yeah Ted Nugent. Can't believe how little love Uncle Ted gets around here. |

11.19.10 | @reaganomics777 and Aids
Well, Simons albums charted before during and after Supertramp.
64-70 simon and garfunkle
74-06 solo = 42years relevant
every single album...
Supertramp charted with all of there albums between 74-87 13yrs relevant
I can see why Supertramp is a little under loved by some, Just sayin. |
Jethro42
11.19.10 | ''Supertramp needs some more love around here though''
Yes it does. It's one of the band I've listened to the most during the last 30 years.

11.19.10 | I personally dislike a lot of music from that time frame (75-90). Makes me think of Disco and hair bands.

11.21.10 | needs Nat King Cole |
DinoX
11.21.10 | Frank Sinatra owns.
But in general I don't really like classic music. Classic music already gets enough respect as it is, modern music is so greatly disrespected. |
KeithStone582
11.21.10 | Neil Young? |

11.21.10 | "Who else would he pick? ABBA noooo he'd get his man card pulled."
LOL. Nothing wrong liking some of the songs of ABBA, Eagle for example is brilliant.
"I personally dislike a lot of music from that time frame (75-90). Makes me think of Disco and hair bands."
There is alot of different kinds of music from this period, not just 'hair bands'. And disco has been the biggest influence on dance music from the 70s to now, and most people like some dance music.
"But in general I don't really like classic music. Classic music already gets enough respect as it is, modern music is so greatly disrespected."
I don't think that's any reason to dislike classic music. The problem for modern music is that probably most of the better stuff is lost underneath heaps of hyped crap. |

I concur and I can appreciate their place on the evolutionary chart however it is simply my least favorite time period for music. |
starry
11.22.10 | I wouldn't really see it as evolutionary, it's simply a style (among many other styles). And styles fall in and out of fashion all the time. And although you say you don't like 80s music some styles of the 80s have actually made a comeback in the 2000s. |
Pastor of Muppets
11.22.10 | Aside from Sinatra, Presley and Seger, this list is goddamn spectacular. The 70's had just as many great bands as the 2000's and 50% less bullshit. CCR, Tom Petty, Billy Joel, Boston, Deep Purple and the classic prog genius that is motherfucking Supetramp. Question, though, why did you pick the 3 least prog songs (Breakfast in America notwithstanding) from the band you called "better than most prog bands people fap over"? |
Jethro42
11.22.10 | ''why did you pick the 3 least prog songs (Breakfast in America notwithstanding) from the band you called "better than most prog bands people fap over"?''...
...Hans is not a progster. That being said, Supertramp is arguably the best band to get into the genre. Don't give up Hans =P |

Definition of Evolution: "A gradual process in which something changes into a different and usually
more complex or better form."
"I wouldn't really see it as evolutionary"
I was agreeing with you but I'm not sure where you're going here.
There is quite a bit of music I like from this time period (talking heads, REM, Police etc.) however
of the types of music I don't like a majority of them also come from this time frame.
Because of this I tend to view this time period as a "dark" moment in music that I personally avoid
for the most part. |
starry
11.22.10 | "Aside from Sinatra, Presley and Seger, this list is goddamn spectacular."
Sinatra sang alot of great songs. And Presley has been a bit overrated but he still had some decent songs.
"I was agreeing with you but I'm not sure where you're going here."
Evolutionary suggests some kind of improvement over time to me, art just changes over time I wouldn't say it gets better or worse. And I'm not saying disco is important for it's influence (that influence can be bad as well as good) but that it's important for it's actual achievement in the songs in that style.
Obviously we all have preferences for some styles more than others, though it's important to sample all styles perhaps so we can like something from all and see what can be done within a style. |
