11.18.10 | Bulls are going to be much, much better when Boozer comes back. Right now Rose is our only consistent offense. I would like to see us make a move for a SG with 3-point range and some ball-handling/slashing skills (OJ Mayo would be perfect, and I hear Memphis is looking to move him before they lose him in FA) but it's not that easy to move Deng right now. He needs to put a good stretch of games together before that's a possibility.
I'm still holding out hope for a Deng + Taj + picks for Melo deal, but who knows. |

11.18.10 | hahahah there's no way you guys are getting Melo. I honestly think the whole melo situation is hot air and he'll end up staying in denver. Deng is a good player, but he's just not right for Chicago's new offensive gameplan. And I'm still on the fence about Boozer being that big of a factor for you guys. He's used to playing with Deron Williams, Utah's selfless team players, and Jerry Sloan's genius, so the switch to Chicago will be pretty dramatic for him. It'll be interesting to see how he fits into the system.
This is one of the best seasons in recent memory for the NBA. I'm genuinely excited about this year...and that hasn't happened in a long time. |

11.18.10 | I actually think that Deng plays well ONLY in systems like what we have -- where his role is clearly defined and involves a lot of motion. The reason he sucked under Del Negro was that Vinny never even installed an offensive system, it was all isolation and occasional pick and roll -- neither of which are things Deng does well. In fact, those are his biggest weaknesses as a player. He needs a coach with a strict system, which is why he excelled under Scott Skiles and (with the exception of the last two games) has played really well this season (he IS averaging only 2 ppg less than Melo, and more rpg).
Boozer will be perfect for us, I don't see any selfish players on our roster. Plus, our offensive system under Thibs is more similar to Utah than any other team, with the possible exception of Boston.
The only reason I think we have a shot at Melo is that he will make about $25 million more over the course of his contract by signing that extension, and if he doesn't want to play for Denver (which he's made clear, along with his MTV star wife) then he has to force a trade. He can do free agency this summer, but there will be a new CBA and who knows what a max contract will be. He could lose out on much more than $25 mil. The Bulls are the only big city team with the trade chips, though I think we'll need to move Deng somewhere else, like in a three team deal. |
