Favorite Album Openers

See what I did there?
1Deerhunter
Microcastle

Cover Me Slowly into Agoraphobia. I like how the intro's in 6/8, then Agoraphobia is in 4/4. These guys are clever.
2The Mars Volta
De-Loused in the Comatorium

DA!! DA DA!! DA DA DA!! DA!! DADADADADA! This guy knows what I'm talking about.
3Dredg
El Cielo

Random noise in the first track, sounds like a dude cutting cocaine or something. Then it goes into Same Ol' Road, arguably the best dredg song.
4My Bloody Valentine
Loveless

The heavy riff in "Only Shallow" is such a good hook for a classic album.
5The Sword
Age Of Winters

"Celestial Crown" is only like 3 or 4 or 5 chords but it's played with such power and aggression. The Sword are pretty much saying, to me, with this opener "we play mother fucking heavy rock and roll".
6...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead
Worlds Apart

Sorry. I know I put these guys in a lot of my lists, but this album has such a killer opener. It starts off with a Gladiator-esque intro, then a chick says "and you will know us by the trail of dead". Right into Will You Smile Again.
7Radiohead
Kid A

Everything In It's Right Place. Need I say more?
