Are Opeth Actually Any Good???

Just kidding we all know Opeth are awesome. This should've actually been called 'The Big Four' ranked, no not metallica eitherrAlbums are my favs. from each band
4Nirvana
Nevermind

I'm sorry for all you Nirvana fanboys, or even worse if you've only heard of nirvana out of these bands. But Nirvana just aren't as good as the competition. Sure they have some great songs: 'Breed', 'Smells like teen spirit' etc. But their albums haven't got the consistant quality, the atmosphere created by the above. Also Kurt has without doubt got the worst vocals out of these 4 bands, the fact that vocals are extremely important in this genre puts Nirvana at a disadvantage already. Nirvana aren't famous for the music, most people know that, they're the Joy Division of the Grunge world.
3Pearl Jam
Ten

First of all, 'Ten' is a classic album. 'Vs.' is pretty good too, but then the stuff that follows just isn't the same. Disappointing, but then almost every band will change their sound at some point if they're wriyting music long enough. Just the pure emotion in songs like 'black' is a treat to behold. Their albums don't quite have the same gloomy feel of the bands above, and their newer stuff isn't grunge anyway, so 3rd is where they are.
2Alice In Chains
Dirt

All the essential ingredients of grunge are here: dark, haunting, gloomy and ultimately, depressing. They have also been incredibly consistent throughout their career continuing to release top quality albums. Dirt being the best, and tied with 'superunknown' for the best album to herald from Seattle. Lyrically they are superb, and complement the style of music perfectly.
1Soundgarden
Superunknown

Just edged ahead of Alice in Chains, 'Superunknown' being one of my fav. albums of all time. and Chris Cornell has the best vocals out of any of these bands. Lyrically great as wel, this from the song '4th of July:
The fire is spreading
And no one wants to speak about it
Down in the hole
Jesus tries to crack a smile
Beneath another shovel load
Honestly just flip a coin between these guys and AiC.
