| Gang Of Four Thoughts.
I finished their studio discography tonight and finished their last recorded album. Here are my rankings and thoughts for each album. I left soundoffs for most if not all I believe without reviews. | 1 | | Gang of Four Entertainment!
I listened to Mission of Burma's Vs. and Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures / Closer. I needed more post-punk and I got one of the best when I started playing Entertainment!. Everything on this album speaks quality - the hard-biting lyrcism, the vocal delivery and most of all Gill's fantastic guitar that moves all over the place. | 2 | | Gang of Four Solid Gold
As I said in my review Solid Gold isn't Entertainment! quality, but it clearly shows King taking the band in different direction, although not by much. His vocals aren't like a shouting match as before, even if I loved that Solid Gold still remains a fantastic album. | 3 | | Gang of Four Shrinkwrapped
This was Gang of Four's last album, but apparently they're coming out with another next January. It is without a doubt one of the biggest surprises of any band I've come across that have fallen so far, only to climb back up and punch me in the mouth. The modern sound isn't bad, despite a more muddy and darker production approach that sounds like something out of Nirvana's In Utero or Local H's early work. You could always tell that King - one half of the band's true livelihood was always on his game, no matter how bad the album was. When other members departed the focus fell apart, but with Gill and King reunited Shrinkwrapped sounds bizarrely good, despite its production flaws. | 4 | | Gang of Four Songs of the Free
Everything about Songs of the Free reads minor failure because the sound they try to pull off, a dreary, dark atmosphere without the production and instrumental quality that they got from their old bassist and percussion sections shows. Its still worth a look, no doubt, but just a big disappointment compared to their previous work. | 5 | | Gang of Four Mall
Before Mall came out Gang of Four threw out their worst effort and see anything remotely decent was a blessing. Mall - for all its problems still sees the group trying to bring themselves out of the abyss that was Hard. | 6 | | Gang of Four Hard
I really have no idea what the fuck Gang of Four were thinking...Their sound on this record can only be said to be garnered from the synth and the countless female backup chorus feels like a charade and a cruel joke. A joke I barely saw any worth in. Listen to "Is It Love" and tell me what is that? A horrible disco song or post-punk goodness? You listen carefully the lyrics are fantastic, but the sound is downright fucking wrong. | |

10.19.10 | awesome, i only have 1 but its incredible [2]
that really is the same sentiment as me. its odd. | MassiveAttack
10.19.10 | uhh get Solid Gold and Shrinkwrapped. Those are my suggestions. Shrinkwrapped is different, but it still has great lyricism from King. As for you FoxHound you need to get their debut it remains to be a post-punk classic. | Phil
10.19.10 | Yeah, I've been meaning to get Solid Gold, I may get shrinkwrapped at the same time. Nice little discriptions too. I should be seeing them at Soundwave. | MassiveAttack
10.19.10 | I really can't wait for their next album after hearing Shrinkwrapped, expecting disappointment. Although that might be 15 years ago, it doesn't change the fact Gill and King reunited during that album and it paid immediate dividends, just as I hope their next will. | xfearbefore
10.19.10 | Entertainment is the best post-punk album, like, ever. | porch
10.19.10 | yeah entertainment! is a classic and solid gold is good too. the more recent albums are pretty awful though |
