10.12.10 | I'd just stay with Agaetis, Takk (I'm not a big fan but others adore it), Von (if you can consider that post-rock) and Heima. Their other stuff is really boring imo. I'd also wait a bit before getting into Mono or Explosions in the Sky (Read: they both suck) because they're pretty unassuming for first-time listeners. |

10.12.10 | Here's the thing about making a "post-rock recs" list: You're going to get a whole bunch of recs and almost all of them will be really good. So yes get all the obvious ones (like Mogwai, Mono blah blah). but a better thing to do would be to go to the post-rock charts and organize it by highest rated of all time. Then you can see how many votes each has, what it's average rating is, and link to it easily. Click on a post-rock section of someone's pie chart to get to the post-rock page then click 'charts' (I have it in my piechart if you cant find it).
So instead of loading you down with many recs and agreeing with almost everything here so far (I think Talk Talk and Explosions In The Sky are overrated) I'm going to rec you one outstanding album:
Jaga Jazzist - What We Must
A post-rock influenced jazzy album with bits of electronica. It's just phenomenal and not likely to get rec'd by many other users. It's my 2nd favourite album of last decade behind Kid A.
Holy monster post. I'm out. |

10.12.10 | Post-Rec is a deep genre. Start by looking at the charts like I said. You'll quickly find out which albums are "essential" and go from there.
Definitely get that Jaga Jazzist album though |

10.12.10 | Yeah you'll find that about 50 percent of these albums are either extremely derivative, excruciatingly boring or both. |
