Strider
10.11.10 | Also, rec me some, plz. |
Yazz_Flute
10.11.10 | Pain of Salvation - The Perfect Element (all of their albums are concept albums, this one's the best though)
Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime (classic)
Dream Theater - Metropolis Part II: Scenes From a Memory (first one I ever heard)
Opeth - My Arms Your Hearse/Still Life
I could list plenty more. |
FearThyEvil
10.11.10 | Mastodon- Crack the Skye is another concept album by them if I'm not mistaken. |
Strider
10.11.10 | I think all of Mastodon's albums are concept albums. but how do you get into the story? that's my main concern about concept albums. |
zarquan99
10.11.10 | what the hell is the concept of 3? 1's concept is lol but great album. props for 4 |
Strider
10.11.10 | 3 if I remember, is the story of a girl who is imprisoned, and this mad priest wants her death. read the review about it, it's a great story.
I discovered 4 yesterday, took me to a whole new world lol. |
Hyperion1001
10.11.10 | I love a good concept album, but here are some of my favorite.
Cradle of Filth - Cruelty and the Beast
Absu - Tara (actually pretty much all they do)
Ancient - The Cainian Chronicles
Bal-Sagoth - The Chthonic Chronicles
Carach Angren - Lammendam
Nocturnus - The Key
Summoning - Everything
Albums like that are why i still buy hard copies of CD's. When a really well done concept album is put out, there's usually a wealth of information and cool stuff in the CD jacket for you to discover.
Bal-Sagoth actually has a whole section of their website devoted to explaining the concepts behind their material.

10.11.10 | I love it when a band is capable of telling a really good story. thanks for the recs, thought I don't think I'll be checking up Cradle of Filth, I really can't stand them, sorry. |
Ire
10.11.10 | David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars
best concept album tbh |
Hyperion1001
10.11.10 | Most of the stuff i recced is black metal (all different kinds, but still based on black metal) except for Nocturnus, which is death. They're pretty accessible though, no tape recorder in a forest stuff, so let me know if you really enjoy any of them. |
KILL
10.11.10 | operation mindcrime, so good |
Strider
10.11.10 | I've been thinking of giving that genre a try, if you say it's accessible I'll take your word for it thanks.

FrostbiteOblivion
10.11.10 | The Mars Volta - De-loused in the Comatorium |
deathofasalesman
10.11.10 | Defeater - TRAVELS
Defeater - LOST GROUND |
Pastor of Muppets
10.11.10 | Oh yeah, Crack the Skye is Mastodon's best, but aside from The (epic) Czar, the concept is hard to grasp. Leviathan is child's play compared.
Dream Theater- Scenes From a Memory
Porcupine Tree- In Absentia, Fear of a Blank Planet
Opeth- Still Life
The Fall of Troy- Phantom on the Horizon |
Strider
10.11.10 | That Mars Volta album is on my Ipod already, I'm going to listen to it very soon. |
DeafMetal
10.11.10 | Opeth - My Arms, Your Hearse
The Prize Fighter Inferno - My Brother's Blood Machine
Right Away, Great Captain! - The Eventually Home / The Bitter End
A Forest Of Stars - The Corpse Of Rebirth / Opportunistic Thieves Of Spring
Get all of these. |
FrostbiteOblivion

10.11.10 | "I discovered 4 yesterday, took me to a whole new world lol."
Took you this long to find DSotM? |
bailar14
10.11.10 | Enrique Iglesias - Euphoria
concept of sexiness |
DeafMetal
10.11.10 | Even thinking about that album makes me sweat, bailar. |
Strider
10.11.10 | "Took you this long to find DSotM?"
Well I've been hearing a lot about it, but for some reason, never interested me to listen to it. wierd I know
bailar, you know you're my favorite user? haha |
DeafMetal
10.11.10 | Hey Strider, I just watched "The Road" last night and Strider was in it and it was incredible. |
Strider
10.11.10 | I've been meaning to watch that one, thanks for reminding me! |
Powerban
10.11.10 | Cult Of Luna - The Eternal Kingdom
The whole album is based around a book they found in their recording studio, which per chance is in an old mental hospital. They also released a hardbook and audiobook combo this year called Eviga Riket which tells the story more thoroughly. |
Yeahtoast
10.11.10 | Journal - Unlorja |

10.11.10 | bailamos deafmetal.

Strider
10.11.10 | Powerban, that sounds freaky. I like it huhu. |

10.11.10 | I haven't listened to too many concept albums, but these are all good:
Dream Theater: Scenes From A Memory,
Porcupine Tree: Fear of a Blank Planet,
Opeth: Still Life.
I still need to hear Operation: Mindcrime. |
deathofasalesman
10.11.10 | Dude DEFEATER. |

10.11.10 | Emmure- Felony
|
JesusChris
10.11.10 | DEFEATER!!!!!!
Read the lyrics while listening to Lost Ground. You will understand the story providing you aren't illiterate. |
astrel
10.11.10 | The Decemberists - The Hazards of Love.
The story is pretty and incredibly simple. Don't worry, with some practice you can move onto the tougher stuff like Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick. |
FrostbiteOblivion
10.11.10 | Oh, Sleeper - Son of the Morning was also considered a concept album I guess |
deathofasalesman
10.11.10 | JesusChris knows what's up. Defeater make the best concept albums. |
pmmets07
10.12.10 | Defeater - Lost Ground [3]
In Flames - Whoracle
The Antlers - Hospice |
Ire
10.12.10 | David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars
