10.10.10 | The poem "Breaker" written by Jose Palos (I think that's his name) is really great ad well. It's incorporated into the album
"Breaker" (go figure) by For Today, broken down into four songs. (Breaker's Origin, Valley, Encounter, and Commission) The
words are changed slightly to accomodate the songs but really, it's just a beautiful piece of writing. |

10.11.10 | "the best poems are verbal illustrations of scenes and emotions that combine eloquence and meaning"
A huge part of the beauty of poetry is to do with the arrangement of the language on the page. They're intended to be read aloud, but not simply experienced audibly. And only 'scenes and emotions'? Themes? Ideas?
"note i only chose american poets on this list; i chose not to take the cliches of pablo neruda and shakespere (blech)."
Shakespeare's work is astounding; his use of language unparalleled. Do you really think his work has survived in such esteem whilst being cliched? |
Locrian
10.11.10 | "A huge part of the beauty of poetry is to do with the arrangement of the language on the page. They're intended to be read aloud, but not simply experienced audibly. And only 'scenes and emotions'? Themes? Ideas?"
Couldn't agree more. One can depict scenes and emotions with prose, which in some ways is arguably more effective. It's structure and arrangement that really matter. |
Athom
10.11.10 | my favorite poem is incredibly short.
"Little soul little stray
little drifter
now where will you stay
all pale and all alone
after the way
you used to make fun of things" |
Locrian
10.11.10 | This is one of my personal favorites.
"Come here you naughty girl you're such a tease
You look so beautiful down on your knees
Keep on those high heel shoes rip off all your clothes
You smell so fucking good it makes me lose control!" |
Athom
10.11.10 | i dunno. im still siding with Hadrian. |

10.11.10 | Can't beat Philip Larkin...
They fuck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.
But they were fucked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another's throats.
Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don't have any kids yourself. |
