Orbs - Asleep Next To Science Ranked

It's been around since at least last year I know, but this is holding up as one of my top contenders for AOTY.
9Orbs
People Will Read Again

Probably the strangest song on the album, complete with inane lyrical
mumbling, welling piano runs, and high-pitched wiener vocals. This is probably
the only song on the album where Fisher's vocals irritate me anymore, as he
weaves a dream-like tale in a voice which would fit a mocking 6-year old boy.
Despite the slightly grating vocals, I have found this to me the least engaging of
all the songs. It's still rather good (despite perhaps being too long for its own
good at 10 minutes) but there isn't one moment that completely immerses me
as most of the other songs have.
8A: We the Animal

The chorus is easily the highlight of the song, but part B surpasses it.
7Lost at Sea

The song which most prominently utilizes Adam's gruff hardcore "shrieks" if you
will. Paired with Brigg's high-pitched tremelo picking makes Lost at Sea both an
aggressive and spacey journey.
6B: Kid Cancer

The shortest song on the album. Cryptic and catchy as hell.
5A Man of Science

If any single were released from the album, this would have to be it. This is a
good summation of the album in just under 6 minutes. The lyrics are notably
infectious and the keys shine.
4Megaloblastic Madness

From the get-go there's a strong downbeat groove. Though there is a general
structure to the song (as well as a defined chorus) there's a very large number
of sections thrown in. However, it manages to sound entirely cohesive instead
of extraneously progressive.
3Sayer of the Law

Adam's vocals are probably the least grating on this song. "Sayer of the Law"
opens the album abruptly with a simple chugging riff before segueing straight
into chaos. The section from 3:06 to 4:-01 is one of my personal top moments
of the album.
2Something Beautiful

The lyrics really help make this song as memorable as it is. Paired with a rather
simple piano motif the tale they weave is somehow heart-wrenching in its
childish horror.
1Eclipsical

Not one minute of these 14 minutes appear unnecessary at all. Somehow, it
the whole song manages to be the most engaging on the cd while being the
longest by far. Highlights include the instrumental mid-section (which harkens
back to BTBAM) and the bridge from 10:30-11:30, which may be my favorite
section on the whole album.
