Bands I Saw Yesterday

Went to FreeFest yesterday. Pretty good stuff, considering the price. Here are the bands I was able to check out.
1The Temper Trap

Good stuff. Didn't stray too far from the album versions, but that's okay. Their new songs sound pretty solid, too.
2Jimmy Eat World

Caught about 2/3rds of their set. Lots of Bleed American and Futures material, which was great. 23 is such a good song.
3Trombone Shorty

Saw the second half of his show. Really, really entertaining, especially his New Orleans-style march into the crowd. More jazz shows should be this fun.
4Edward Sharp & the Magnetic Zeros

Only saw a little of their stuff, but it was decent. Thanks to their hippie jamboree stage show, I still can't watch them live without thinking of the It's Always Sunny episode with the extended McPoyle family.
5Yeasayer

Probably my favorite act of the day. Great mix of both their albums, and a high energy set. Didn't hurt that a few of them are Baltimore natives. Wish the sun wasn't hitting me right in the face the whole time, though.
6Thievery Corporation

Eh. A good time filler while I sat down for half an hour, I guess.
7Matt & Kim

Pretty solid. My friends were bigger fans that I was, really, but they do put on a good show. And of course Daylight is almost unbearably catchy.
8Pavement

Actually didn't know too much about these guys other than the fact that they'd recently reformed after a lengthy breakup. A good 90s alternative-ish sound. And they're really funny, which always helps.
9Sleigh Bells

I have their album, but I don't know, I wasn't really feeling their live show. Could have been all the random screaming and screeching. But maybe I was just getting tired.
10M.I.A.

Only caught a couple of her songs. Dancey stuff. I was surprised.
11LCD Soundsystem

An entertaining show. I wasn't too familiar with his stuff, but he made electronic-y music really accessible and fun. Plus, he had a mini-light show that was pretty entertaining.
12Godspeed You! Black Emperor

Okay, so not really. Would've been awesome, though, amiright? I did find out they're coming to the 9:30 Club in D.C., which is really great news.
