Music For WoW

World of Warcraft has a neat soundtrack, and some really cool music, but most of the time, I'm happier listening to my own music. I've got different CDs that fit what activities I'll be performing, as well as what will mesh well with my mood to produce a positive gaming environment.
1Opeth
Damnation

My original "Music For WoW" album. It's a very moody, atmospheric album, which really worked for the large amounts of time I'd spend running through dark, forested areas either between quests or grinding.
2Opeth
Blackwater Park

Kick-ass fighting music that is intense enough to provide a bit of adrenaline, but balanced enough dynamically that it isn't a constant assault and makes better all-purpose WoW music than more "hardcore" music might. Even Instances aren't ALL fighting and killing.
3Boards of Canada
Music Has the Right to Children

Wonderful background music for less-active sessions. Actually, just wonderful background music in general
4 Boards of Canda
In a Beautiful Place out in the Country

Very much like the album above, except this is generally even more ambient, atmospheric, and less active - all of which work rather nicely.
5Nightwish
Once

Fantasy Metal. Should be obvious. Fighting an epic group battle to "Ghost Love Score" is pretty intense.
6 A Silver Mount Zion
He Has Left Us Alone, But Shafts Of Light Sometimes Grace The Corner Of Our Rooms

Moderately depressing, finely-crafted earthy Post-Rock that just works for wandering around in a forest. Because I play Night Elf way too darn much.
7A Silver Mount Zion
This Is Our Punk-Rock, Thee Rusted Satellites Gather and Sing

See above.
8Deerhoof
The Runners Four

This is fun, active music for days when I'm looking for more uptempo gameplay, particularly Instance Run and Dungeon days. "Spirit Ditties Of No Tone", "O'Malley, Former Underdog", "Wrong Time Capsule" and many others are always good picker-uppers.
9 Deerhoof
Apple O'

See above. But do note that fighting an Instance Boss while listening to "Panda Panda Panda" is the most hilarious thing ever.
10Explosions in the Sky
How Strange, Innocence

Gradual swells of intensity, mixed with relatively semi-active listening, tasteful repetition and really neat arranging makes for a nice background soundtrack.
11Mono
Under The Pipal Tree

Baaaaasically the same reasons as the EitS album.
12King Crimson
Red

Loaded with enough kick-ass riffs to make for good fight music, but also enough really cool longer, more atmospheric sections for contrast and for keeping relatively boring sessions from becoming totally stale.
13Massive Attack
Mezzanine

Fluid, dark Trip Hop that works very well for some of the eerier locales that I inhabit with certain characters. Plus, there are some really keen tracks that I just love hearing, like "Group Four" and "Teardrop".
14Coheed and Cambria
In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3

So what if it's Sci-Fi Rock/Metal, that's close enough. I rather like this album, and certain songs are good battle themes, while others are just nice for keeping me somewhat enthused.
15The Flaming Lips
The Soft Bulletin

Mostly just because "Race for the Prize" is too cool for it's own good - and honestly, "A Spoonful Weighs a Ton" sounds conspicuously similar to some WoW music, particularly the keyboard piano parts and orchestral stuff. It just CAN'T be a coincidence.
