My All Time Metal Let-downs

Sometimes, great bands just stumble... and in the cases of these albums, smash their face on glass covered concrete.
1In Flames
Reroute To Remain

Oh man oh man oh man... when I realized this was the great In Flames... I almost cried. Mainstream metalcore sounds back the lackluster vocals, In Flames really strayed off their path, and still haven't returned.
2Trivium
The Crusade

Ascendancy was awesome... just plain sick. Then along came (surprise) metalcore... it seems to ruin a lot of great bands. The Crusade is just trash, a huge Metallica ripoff and just a plain sh*tty album.
3Into Eternity
The Scattering Of Ashes

I loved Buried In Oblivion, LOVED it. Then a vocalist change, which I think can either make or ruin bands (Dark Tranqullity gained international fame after Mikael Stanne took over on vocals). Here, not so much. The high pitched wails and sudden changes to clean singing, not my style. Into Eternity has a lot to do to go back to their former selves.
4Nightrage
Sweet Vengeance

So called "super-bands" usually never do too well. Nightrage, which features an all-star lineup including Tomas Lindberg (Ex- At The Gates)and Marios Iliopoulos (Ex-Exhumation), this CD was supposed to be a great melodic death album. Instead it was quite mainstream, with not many great, catchy songs. A big letdown for me, as I was a huge At The Gates fan, and was expecting something more.
5As I Lay Dying
Frail Words Collapse

Boy was I surprised. I first heard As I Lay Dying from my friend, who played me the song "Forever" which was a great metal sound, and I actually thought "Wow, a Metalcore band which really isn't that hardcore, but more metal." Ummmmmmmmm not really. Upon buying the CD, I was disgusted when listening to other songs. Sure, the vocalist's scream is great, but my god, his annoying whine of a clean voice is unbearable. Totally emo, totally mainsteam, totally metalcore, totally bad. Steer very clear.
