| Maniac's Journey into heavy music
There's a lot of bad shit on here, but some of this stuff I still spin for nostalgia, or just because it is actually pretty good | 1 | | Pillar Fireproof
Oh yes, Christian Nu-Metal! This is where it all started for me. The first concert I ever went to was to see these guys with 12 stones. Epidemic was the heaviest song I had heard up to this album. | 2 | | Demon Hunter Demon Hunter
So I got one of those christian compilation albums "x 2004", I believe. The song "Infected" got constant play time. | 3 | | Underoath The Changing of Times
So after a while of spinning Relient K, Demon Hunter, Pillar, and whatever other stuff I could get my hands on, I heard "Reinventing Your Exit" by Underoath. Needless to say, I loved the song and went to the christian bookstore with my allowance as soon as I could. Ignorant as I was, I didn't know what album the song was on. I saw this album first, so I picked it up. I brought it home and couldn't figure out how it was the same band! It took me a few days, but I eventually loved it and couldn't stop playing it. This was my first favorite metal album. | 4 | | Underoath They're Only Chasing Safety
So I wised up a bit and did my research on Underoath; learning the band history and everything. I went back to the bookstore to pick this up and was pleasantly surprised that every song sounded like the Underoath I first heard. | 5 | | Underoath Define the Great Line
So I saved up my money again, and didn't get any albums until this came out. Once again, I couldn't believe it was the same band! I had never heard anything like this. It was heavy, yet not like TCOT. It wasn't pop like TOCS, either. This was it. This is my favorite album of all time. | 6 | | Haste the Day Pressure the Hinges
Another christian bookstore purchase (I guess I made a lot of them). Not a lot to say about this one, except that Stitches was one of my favorite songs for a while. | 7 | | Chasing Victory Fiends
This sounded like TOCS by Underoath, but with more singing... This went on my christmas list asap. | 8 | | Chasing Victory I call this abandonment
This was more like TOCS, and I loved it, but I never got around to actually getting the album. It was around this time I learned about projectplaylist.com and started getting my music that way. | 9 | | Demon Hunter The Triptych
Now that I had time to truly appreciate the heavier side of music, I went out and bought this instead of a video game (that was a big deal to me back then). This was the best "death metal" I had ever heard. (Genres were NOT my strong suit back then) | 10 | | As I lay Dying An Ocean Between Us
Not a lot to say about this one.. I actually despise the band nowadays, but this was part of my metalcore movement. | 11 | | August Burns Red Messengers
They were my favorite band for a while, but after repeated listens, I strated to find myself getting bored by them. | 12 | | August Burns Red Thrill Seeker
I actually got this after Messengers, I still prefer this to it. | 13 | | The Chariot Everything Is Alive, Everything Is...
Nothing to say, just that it was part of me starting to become obsessed with music. | 14 | | Norma Jean Bless The Martyr, And Kiss The Child
Same as 13 | 15 | | Bullet For My Valentine Scream, Aim, Fire
This is Brandon going mainstream. I got tired of the christian lyrics. I wanted something from another point of view (this is where I started questioning things). I never 'loved' this album really.. But Waking the Demon was fucking gold to me | 16 | | Bullet for My Valentine The Poison
This is where I started really liking them, I would never had gotten into this stuff without pandora radio or project playlist | 17 | | All that Remains The Fall of Ideals
I hadn't really heard anything like this before. I thought it was heavier than stuff like ABR, but the vocalist was just AMAZING to me. I still spin this sometimes, but not as much as I used to. | 18 | | Killswitch Engage As Daylight Dies
I heard Holy Diver. YEAH, yeah, I know. But I spent my money on this album. I used to think that the title track was the best song ever. Later I learned about Dio... but that's another list. | 19 | | Killswitch Engage Alive or Just Breathing
My favorite from them. I got this shortly after ADD. I didn't realize they were the same band the first time I heard "My Last Serenade". I started youtubing more stuff from them. After this I moved into a short Nu-Metal phase. The combination of the last few albums and finding L.D. 50 by Mudvayne is what led me to Sputnik. Everything changed. All this happened really quickly, and I am proud to say that I have grown up a lot in a short amount of time, not just musically. | |

08.11.10 | Stuff and stuff | Apollo
08.11.10 | a lot of this stuff I was listening to when I was younger. I still play KSE, ATR and early Underoath sometimes | Inveigh
08.11.10 | 3 came out right as I started to break out of the Solid State scene, still a great album.
10, 11, 12, 14, 17, 18 and 19 all got heavy play from me from like 2003-2006ish, I still love a few of them | punanipery
08.11.10 | i don't get metalcore at all. i find 99.9% of it to be repetitive and generic. the only ones i can stand are botch, converge, and integrity. the rest i'll just throw away. | fivesnw
08.11.10 | you obviously didn't get the point of the list | FadeToBlack
08.11.10 | all this sucks douchebag | punanipery
08.11.10 | i got the point, i was just forming an opinion of some of the music on here. what's your problem? | fivesnw
08.11.10 | don't have a problem, just didn't seem like a relevant comment. 'most of metalcore sucks' ... well i kind of agree.. that was kind of the point of the list. just thought you might have something more ... useful to say | FadeToBlack
08.11.10 | we're up for unbanning today right? | punanipery
08.11.10 | i never said metalcore sucks, all i said was i don't get metalcore. as long as that music is on your list, my comment is relevant. | BallsToTheWall
08.11.10 | too much christcore. | Locrian
08.11.10 | This type of metalcore is what I like to call "'Fisher Price' My First Heavy Metal." I'll still play some of these again for the nostalgia, though. And of course 19 is still awesome. | BigHans
08.11.10 | THIS IS THE WAY I SHOULD HAVE DONE THINGS! UP AGAINST THE WALL UP AGAINST THE WALL, YOU GOT ME UP AGAINST YOUR WALL!
Best Underoath song by a mile. | Inveigh
08.11.10 | "the only ones i can stand are botch, converge, and integrity. the rest i'll just throw away."
seems a bit short-sighted. | ConsiderPhlebas
08.11.10 | Your journey into heavy music was like your journey into homosexuality: gay. | punanipery
08.11.10 | it is inveigh, and i've given the newer metalcore bands and albums a shot, but just cannot get into them. | FadeToBlack
08.11.10 | "This was the best "death metal" I had ever heard. (Genres were NOT my strong suit back then)"
this made me lol. reminds me when u were trying to tell us that ABR were NWOAHM :P | Inveigh
08.11.10 | but what about the other older metalcore bands? like Poison the Well, Dillinger Escape Plan, Coalesce, Shai Hulud etc. | punanipery
08.11.10 | shai hulud used to be really good, poison the well's okay, DEP is excellent, I just don't see them as metalcore, and Coalesce bores me a bit sometimes. | Emim
08.11.10 | I've listened to all of these; fuck the haters. | TheSpirit
08.11.10 | where's the heavy | Inveigh
08.11.10 | wait, how is DEP not metalcore? I don't see Calculating Infinity as all that different in sound than Jane Doe. | punanipery
08.11.10 | I find it to be more progressive than it is metalcore. i'm not trying to argue with you inveigh, it's just my opinion. | Inveigh
08.11.10 | nah I wasn't trying to argue either, just wondering what you would call them. i can see progressive on albums like Ire Works, but Calculating Infinity and Miss Machine are pretty much essential metalcore to me. | Emim
08.11.10 | "Coalesce bores me a bit sometimes."
You're hilarious. | punanipery
08.11.10 | ^i try | FadeToBlack
08.11.10 | dont really see how you can argue that DEP arent metalcore but ok
i think maniac died | fivesnw
