| Albums/artists That I Don't Get
Don't mean for this to be a "omg d00d these guys suk
y does anybody
like dem" list. I just legitimately don't understand.
Granted, I could (and
should) invest more time into listening through these
works, but as of
now these are my thoughts. | | 1 | The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me
I like a few songs off of this album a lot (Sowing Season, Jesus, Welcome to
Bangkok) but I seriously can NOT make it through more than four tracks. My
main gripe is the vocals, which strike me as being mumbly and melodramatic in
a very tiring way. Stuff is cool to listen to for a few minutes, but after that I'm
just annoyed with Jesse. | | 2 | John Mayer
I can't get into his stuff for the life of me. I really dig his three part DVD because
it shows how truly talented a live performer/guitarist he is, but I borrowed
Continuum from a friend and couldn't believe how unimpressed I was. Is there
a better album I should check out? | | 3 | Mastodon
Must say, I borrowed Blood Mountain from a friend and really hated it. It
seemed way too... idk... "old guys trying to be innovative" metal. I'll probably be
crucified for that lol but I really, really don't understand what the big deal is with
these guys. | | 4 | U2
I have yet to hear a song from U2 that impresses me. Granted, I haven't
listened to a lot of their stuff but what I've heard hasn't been not worthy. What
is the best album? | | 5 | Opeth
Hear me out. I like Opeth. I think they've got a great knack for writing good
parts and Akerfield is an awesome vocalist. But, the highest I have them rated
at is a 3.5 (Blackwater Park). I can see how this band is legendary and I know I
need to listen to Still Life, but they just don't strike me that way. I'm just not
really accustomed to music that uses as much repetition as Opeth does. | |

08.05.10 | I agree with 3 | LaCosaNostra13
08.05.10 | If you're gonna criticize a band and say something stupid, at least spell the name of the band right. | Dryden
08.05.10 | BTBAM also suck | FruityCatOfDoom
08.05.10 | hes got a point with opeth they are really repetitive sometimes and they could make there songs shorter. but listening to an opeth album straight through is a great experience. | FadeToBlack
08.05.10 | you're right about Mastodon. they're not anyway near as important or innovative as people make them out to be | ThisIsDildos
08.05.10 | Uhh, I don't think Jane Doe is really repetitive, excluding the title track which just oozes awesomeness.
Really disagree with 3 and 5. | McCopper
08.05.10 | Work on understanding the names first...It's "Mastodon".
I like 3 and 5 and they weren't too hard to get into. | acorncheese
08.05.10 | BTBAM also suck [2] | 731
08.05.10 | apparently if you say you don't like BTBAM on this site it's a sign of "groupthink". They don't actually suck ass at all.
be careful
| BallsToTheWall
08.05.10 | Every metal fan I know hates Opeth. | qwe3
08.05.10 | I had the same problem with U2 then i figured out that theyre a really single oriented band so i just listened to them and was like oh these are good songs
just get their greatest hits | LegendofPittman
08.05.10 | I like BtBaM a lot actually. I can't get into 5, 1 is amazing, 3 and 4 are okay, and I don't care about 2 other than he is talented for his genre. | FadeToBlack
08.05.10 | btbam also suck [3] | Hyperion1001
08.05.10 | I couldn't agree more with 5. Opeth has some good songs, but there is SO much better music out there. It's nowhere near the classic stuff fanboys always cry about.
It also doesn't help that Akerfeldt is an asshole. | kingjulian
08.05.10 | Sorry 'bout misspelling Mastodon. Stupid mistake. Repetition isn't bad at all but I can get tired of Opeth repeating almost EVERY riff for like 32 measures (yes, that's not entirely accurate/an exaggeration but you get my drift). | MUNGOLOID
08.05.10 | i can agree with 2. | kingjulian
08.05.10 | aaannnd what's the big deal with Mastodon again? | WeepingBanana
08.05.10 | lol you'll be hard pressed to find many songs that don't repeat a riff for 32 measures buddy | tvol
08.05.10 | I can get on board with this entire list. 1 grew on me, but I usually only make it about halfway through before I switch to something else. Mastodon just sounds like a bunch of random and chaotic wanking with no real structure or purpose. Opeth is insufferable. And U2 is awful. | Yeahtoast
08.05.10 | Agree with most of this. | pmmets07
08.05.10 | I agree so completely with all but 1.
Hate Bono, hate U2. | Yeahtoast
08.05.10 | Hate Bono, hate U2. [2] | eternium
08.05.10 | 1, 3, and 5 are way better than BTBAM will ever be. | Ire
08.05.10 | 1 is a grower, i didn't like it either at first
2 sucks and is overrated. Terrible guitar player and singer
3 Crack The Skye is awesome. Blood MT and Leviathan are ok.
4 great band Joshua Tree is nice
5 Try Still Life and either Ghost Reveries or Watershed.
You're a btbam fan(no offence) so you'll probably like Ghost Reveries more. | botb
08.05.10 | 1, 3, and 5 rule. | kingjulian
08.05.10 | @Ire: I actually have Ghost Reveries and I like it but I actually dig Black Water Park the most out their stuff I've heard. Still need to give Still Life a good listen, though. |
