Top 5 Metal Ablums Of '06

Oh man what a year for metal... let's hope 2007 will be just as promising!
1Agalloch
Ashes Against The Grain

Agalloch really is a band which cannot be classified. Elements of Death/Doom/Black/Folk and ton of other kinds of metal mixed in one CD. This CD may take some getting used to, and some may not like it at all, but if you really understand what Agalloch is trying to do here you realize it is perfection put on a CD. A simply flawless album, deserves my honor for Album of the year, without a doubt.
2Insomnium
Above The Weeping World

It seems as though Insomnium cannot put out a bad song, let alone a bad CD. Every single track here has a purpose and a meaning, all blend together, and the unrelenting fury of the songs is unrivaled. Through all the melodies, the light acoustic guitar work, the pounding electric guitar riffs, the growling vocals, and the ominous whispered passages, you'll realize deep inside yourself that this is pure gold.
3Mastodon
Blood Mountain

Mastodon pulled out all the stops for this one, a CD which truly took me by surprise, and I loved it. From the ripping solo of "Crystal Skull" to the fast pace of "Capillarian Crest" I loved this one from start to finish.
4Heaven Shall Burn
Deaf To Our Prayers

While some may disagree with me on this one, I fell in love with Heaven Shall Burn's latest offering ever since the first headbanging notes of the superb opener "Counterweight". This time Heaven Shall Burn throw their full weight at this CD, making it one of their heaviest, and best, offerings to date.
5Katatonia
The Great Cold Distance

While Sweden's Katatonia may not be for the hardcore, only screamed vocals, metalhead, it is still a wonder on how this band isn't more popular. They create awesome, catchy riffs and the vocals, even though they are sung cleanly, are still awesome. Deserving of a spot here without question, Katatonia do it again.
