illmitch
07.25.10 | go out to a random street and ask the first 20 people you meet what their opinion of gza is
then get back to me |
Psilocyanide
07.25.10 | GZA's not underground, he's old school. |
illmitch
07.25.10 | yeah because there's a big difference between the two
if you're old school it's impossible to be underground

07.25.10 | Let's see he's on multiple platinum/gold albums, Liquid Swords reached number 9 on the charts. Sounds real fucking underground. |
illmitch
07.25.10 | hey what was it that really smart guy said oh yeah it was
go out to a random street and ask the first 20 people you meet what their opinion of gza is
then get back to me |
Psilocyanide
07.25.10 | Dude my 10th grade history teacher knew who GZA was and she was the nerdiest woman I've ever met. GZA was a huge sensation in the 90's. He's not that underground. |
illmitch
07.25.10 | lol i highly doubt that. even if thats the case, i doubt "your friends who listen to hip hop" are a viable subsection of the hip hop listening diagraphic. the millions of people who listen to radio hip hop have no idea who gza is. thats why 50 cent and soulja boy never responded to his diss in paper planes. |
Ire
07.25.10 | here come dev with a thousand recs...
err is that dance? |
Fort23
07.25.10 | okay niggaz hold up.
one has to recognize the wu-tang, not just the gza, as forefathers to modern underground hiphop, even if they themselves are pretty much a mainstream act. the fact is that they pioneered the underground sound, and, at least in the beginning, the aesthetic that gave helped inspire underground hiphop. arguing about the wu-tang being "underground rap", is like arguing about the clash being a "punk" band. |
Psilocyanide
07.25.10 | Lol Mitch that's ridiculous. You're saying people who you don't even know are hip- hop heads who know a lot about music. Tbh most of the people I know who listen to hip hop know GZA as well and besides that they know nothing about hip-hop. They couldn't even tell you who Aesop Rock was. |
somberlain
07.25.10 | GZA and the Wu were underground at one point, I don't think they fit in that category anymore |
LambsBread
11.12.14 | mitch is a dumbass lol GZA isn't underground hes part of one of the most famous rap groups ever.
I rec Ellay Khule to this 4 year old list. |
