07.13.10 | I'd agree that Techno is generally pretty bad, but there's some good stuff. Start with the obvious ones:
Basic Channel (and then anything by Mark Ernestus and Moritz von Oswald)
Carl Craig
Then use Boomkat and Last.fm to discover similar stuff.
Oh, and add Modeselektor to the lists above. A lot of the stuff listed is great, but it's not what you'd really talk about when talking about Electronic music. |

07.13.10 | techno is possibly the gayest form of electronic music
just listen to justice and burial |
RobertPaulson
07.13.10 | Sorry to sound like an ass but what's the difference between techno and electronic? Like I said, I really know nothing of this style of music. |
witchxrapist
07.13.10 | techno's like... the really bad cheesy electronica with white guys who have dreads rapping over it |
witchxrapist
07.13.10 | aphex twin is awesome |

07.13.10 | techno is like the nu-metal of the electronic genre. It is designed soley on dancablity, not on being good.
That's a good comparison right?
Lots of people have reced great stuff, but the best 3 starter albums would be:
Portishead- Dummy (sexy trip-hop)
Burial- Untrue (sexy dubstep)
Aphex Twin- Richard D. James album (just fucking awesome) |

07.13.10 | Well I like Selected Ambient Works Volume II the most then Selected Ambient Works 85-92. But that is not a good introductory album, esp if he said he wanted techno. |

07.13.10 | lol @ "nu-metal of the electronic genre"
love it when clueless morons on this site act like they know what they're talking about |

07.13.10 | there are different forms of "Techno" there is Hardcore techno, happy hardcore techno, gabber, DUB, then there is house, deep house, progressive house, jungle etc...back in the day I use to listen to this stuff non-stop. So I am familiar with it. There are so many DJ's from different techno genres here a couple that I know out of the top of my head.
DJ Irene
Rob Gee
Bad Boy Bill
DJ Re-Run

07.13.10 | Lol at descriptions for techno
Its not a genre, its a term |

07.13.10 |
i tend to agree with Deviant, but genre/term/style discussions are usually exhausting :/ |

07.14.10 | Ok. So I added Burial, Aphex Twin, Daft Punk, The Knife, The Prodigy and DJ Shadow to my download list. One more question and then I'll start listening to stuff.
What is "Pretty Lights" considered? Are they crap? |
