Music For When I'm ______

I am one who often likes to supplement whatever I'm doing or feeling with music and here are some of my favorite choices for when I am...
1Muse
Absolution

...in a hurry. The whole album makes me feel very rushed. Especially Stockholm Syndrome.
2 Bel Auburn
Lullabies in A & C

...sleepy. I don't like intentionally falling asleep to music so I always try to stay awake listening to this, but it always puts me to sleep (in a most excellent way).
3Animal Collective
Fall Be Kind

...ambitious. "What would I want? Sky!"
4The Antlers
Hospice

...sad. One of the most heart wrenching albums I own. I couldn't imagine seeing this performed live.
5Eddie Vedder
Into the Wild [Music for the Motion Picture]

...exploring the wilderness on my own. Okay, I haven't actually gone off to Alaska to survive off of just the land, but if I did and I brought music with me this would be it.
6Japandroids
Post-Nothing

...carefree. "It's raining in Vancouver, but I don't give a fuck... 'cause I'm far from home tonight!" This is for when I just don't care about anything. I had a tough time deciding between this and Bob Marley.
7Midlake
The Trials of Van Occupanther

...running. Not high energy or anything but still perfect.
8 The Gaslight Anthem
The '59 Sound

...nostalgic. Everything in this album seems devoted to remembering times in the past, and I love it.
9Ha Ha Tonka
Buckle in the Bible Belt

...going to the river. A local band that gets criminally overlooked around here. One of the songs is about floating on the same river in the Ozarks that I usually go to, hence the choice.
10The Flaming Lips
Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots

...optimistic in tough times. This is THE album to listen to when you need something uplifting when things don't go exactly as you had foreseen them.
11Miles Davis
Kind of Blue

...upset. Don't really know why, but I often listen to this when I'm upset.
12System of a Down
System of a Down

...mad. Really chaotic and really good for venting.
13The Doors
Strange Days

...driving aimlessly at night. This album seems like it wanders around a lot and fits the situation perfectly.
14The Decemberists
The Hazards of Love

...awake really early in the morning. This doesn't usually happen unless it's required, but when it does happen this is one of my top choices.
15Pink Floyd
Wish You Were Here

...missing somebody. Obvious choice really.
16The Flaming Lips
Embryonic

...splitting wood (or any farm work in the winter for that matter). This album is really suitable for snow for some reason, and rhythmically driven tracks like "Convinced of the Hex" help me keep working fast and therefore staying warm.
17Passion Pit
Manners

...happy. Cheerful and uplifting. This always puts me in an even better mood.
18dredg
El Cielo

...staying awake late at night. Maybe it's because it's about sleep and dreaming and that's what most people are doing?
19Rage Against the Machine
Rage Against the Machine

...rebellious. Killing in the Name.
20The Mars Volta
The Bedlam in Goliath

...lifting weights. This energetic and unrelenting album ensures I don't get lazy.
