ShadowRemains
06.20.10 | some drummers are here for technicality speed, others are here for writing drum lines that fit their respective songs perfectly and some are a combination of both |
vanderb0b
06.20.10 | Ringo Starr gets way too much hate, nice to see him here. |
Emim
06.20.10 | Good list, dude. Have you heard Ted Kirkpatrick and Zach Hill? |
ShadowRemains
06.20.10 | yeah |
Emim
06.20.10 | Just wondering, cause they're two of my favorites that never get mentioned on these lists. |
McCopper
06.20.10 | 11 and 32 are my favourites.On my top5 actually. |
ShadowRemains
06.20.10 | there is a lot more, these were just the first 50 that came to mind |
Dryden
06.20.10 | coo for some, make a guitar list sometime. |
themainmast
06.20.10 | what about bryan devendorf from the national?? |
ShadowRemains
06.20.10 | "coo for some, make a guitar list sometime."
will do
|
PayneTiger777
06.20.10 | Needs the dude from Dredg and Morgan Rose. |
dnor
06.20.10 | I hate Slipknot, and as a person I hate him, but as a drummer, Joey Joey Jordison is a monster. I dislike your lack of him on this list. |
maidenpmcc
06.20.10 | What about Brann Dailor, Joey Jordison and the drummer from Dream Theater?
|
opblaaskonijn
06.20.10 | Porcupine Tree?
BTBAM? |
Mclovin
06.20.10 | I know the following claim will be extremely controversial, but...
The drummer from Cryptopsy is waaaaaaay overrated. The stuff he plays, although very fast, rarely goes outside death metal basics, and his consistency/stick control is awful. He fits Cryptopsy well and he does his job (not to mention he's fast with a shitload of endurance) but he's not what people make him out to be. |
ShadowRemains
06.20.10 | ummm.... |
Mclovin
06.20.10 | Gene Hoglan and Flo are two of the biggest drummers (no pun intended for Gene) of their respective styles, and they both lack strong technique. But, the difference is, Gene makes up for it and plays waaay more cleanly and consistently, and plays really innovative, cool stuff. |
ShadowRemains
06.20.10 | "and they both lack strong technique."
i respectfully disagree |
Mclovin
06.20.10 | I guess I'm also looking at them from a more classical stand point, because I do more percussion/drumline stuff than metal. But, I still think he's a great and influential drummer. I just don't think he deserves allll the hype that I've seen him get. |
thesystemisdown
06.20.10 | surprised not to see Brann Dailor/Blake Richards but great list. you'd probably like some jazz drummers like Max Roach and Philly Joe Jones |
Mclovin
06.20.10 | Hellll yeah, thesystemisdown, Max Roach and Philly Joe Jones are beasts. No one plays the hi-hat better.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T39ZaFT1kA0
Check this dude out. |
SpottedTrout
06.20.10 | Hey Mclovin, are you in a drumline? |
WeepingBanana
06.21.10 | List should be called "50 Drummers that aren't as good as Zach Hill" |
Mclovin
06.21.10 | For my high school, yeah; next year I'm hoping to try out for a snare spot in Carolina Crown (DCI) |
SpottedTrout
06.21.10 | I'm a trumpet player for marching band and i play cymbals for indoor. Good luck at Crown, i might try out there later, but i'm only a sophomore in HS. Carolina Gold is prob my best if i decide to march next year, they're DCA but cheaper. |
ShadowRemains
06.21.10 | "List should be called "50 Drummers that aren't as good as Zach Hill""
ugh...
|
EVedder27
06.21.10 | hell yeah Keith Moon |
Mclovin
06.21.10 | Nice dude! Haha, corps trumpets are insane; what's your top range? I'm a senior, and I doubt I'm good enough, but I still want to throw my hand in. Yeah, DCI is hella expensive - that's why I'm not sure about it. |
SpottedTrout
06.21.10 | E above the staff, which is meh. Now thats school is out i actually will have time to practice. Yeah, Drum Corps is crazy expensive, but Carolina Gold is only 700 bucks or so, and is great to start out on. Regardless, auditioning will be a great experience. |
WeepingBanana
06.21.10 | nahh shadow i'm just kidding.
this is a good list it just has that one fatal flaw =P |
Mclovin
06.21.10 | E above the staff, if clean, isn't bad dude, especially for a sophomore. 700 bucks? Damn...then maybe I'll try for DCA next summer and wait for some college drumline experience before DCI. I know literally nothing about DCA, though. I'll look into it. |
SpottedTrout
06.21.10 | Thanks, and i don't know much about DCA either, i don't think there's an age out though. Yeah, there's some good college drumlines out there, what state do you live in? |
Mclovin
06.21.10 | No age out? Shiiiiit...I'd think that would mean fewer open spots. Virginia. For us, the only really good in-state drumline is James Madison University. What about you? |
SpottedTrout
06.21.10 | I'm in Va too haha. George Mason Univeristy has an awesome drumline. What school did you march with this winter? I was with Powhatan High School. |
Mclovin
06.21.10 | Dude...Haha. I'm not sure we can be friends anymore. I'm from Sherando XD |
couldwinarabbit
06.21.10 | Charlie Watts- The Rolling Stones (he's as good as Keith Moon just subtle instead of loud)
Bryan Devendorf - The National |
Emim
06.21.10 | I really like Zach Hill because he plays by feel instead of by counting or more classical methods. It's the same way that I play. |
Ire
06.21.10 | lars ulrich
props for 38 ilybro |
ShadowRemains
06.21.10 | : D |
SpottedTrout
06.21.10 | Haha its all good :) |
liledman
06.21.10 | mclovin you are spot on about flo, he has way too many fan boys. same with mike smith too.
seriously i think ive only seen one drummers list that had any of the following:
elvin jones
buddy rich
philly joe jones
steve gadd
vinnie colaiuta
dennis chambers |
Mclovin
06.21.10 | I agree liledman. That's because few Sputnik users listen to jazz; there's nothing wrong with that, but most of the best drummers in the world play/played jazz. |
ShadowRemains
06.21.10 | fuck, forgot Buddy Rich, and I said he'd be on this list... |
rhcpkp15
06.22.10 | charlie watt is one of the worst drummers ever. he cant even hit the snare and the hi hat at the same fucking time |
ShadowRemains
06.22.10 | uhhh, no |

11.12.10 | That dude from primus needs some love. |

11.12.10 | Blake Richardson not here, you fucking kidding. |
Aids
11.12.10 | I love The Beatles, but Ringo Starr on a top drummers list? No way. |
