vanderb0b
06.15.10 | Here's my explanations: Five Leaves Left contains some of the most beautiful melodies ever written, and Nick Drake's vocal performance is incredibly emotive. Also, the lyrics are heartfelt. Whenever I feel depressed, I listen to this.
Symbolic-The pinnacle of metal, imo. The perfect mix of brutality and melody. The riffs manage to be heavy as hell, and yet aren't mindless chug. Every riff, every vocal line, every solo is memorable. This album had the greatest influence on me as a guitarist.
Thick As A Brick-It makes 40 minutes feel like 5. So many fantastic melodies.
Also, I'd like to add Vladimir Horowitz-Horowitz: Favorite Chopin. Without Horowitz's influence, I would be nowhere as a pianist. Absolutely nowhere. |

06.15.10 | Radiohead- Amnesiac
The album is so diverse. It is impersonal and incredibly intimate. I'll admit not all the songs are up to Radiohead standard, in fact the first half could be called weak. However the second half has three of the greatest songs of the modern era. "Dollars in Cents" is so biting, politically driven but not pushing. "Like Spinning Plates" is so clever so fresh so different from any song I have ever heard before. Then finally the album closes with "Life In a Glasshouse" which is without question the greatest song of all time. No song is more emotional. The lyrics are bitterly clever full of dry humour and lines that are so passionate yet so cold. On top of this is one of the best horn sections (maybe not technically but emotionally) I have ever heard.
This album is not Kid A it is Kid A's more chaotic, irrational brother. It is not the perfect album its predecessor was. It is flawed, sharp, choppy. But it through these errors in which it becomes a masterpiece. Kid A was made in heaven, Amnesiac was made on Earth and those imperfections make it the better than perfection.
@Yotimi good call on BoC- Music...Children though. |
eternium
06.15.10 | You're basically asking for people to write soundoffs for their favorite albums. |

06.15.10 | You've convinced me...
CoSD is the best thing ZUN (the sole member of TSA) ever done, musically... some may argue that it was Magical Astronomy, but I say they are wrong. CoSD has perfect blend of excellent remakes of ZUN's original masterpieces from the Touhou Project video game series and new song to the album. In these songs includes ZUN's own theme song, he made for himself, "Kid's Festival ~ Innocent Treasure" which as a perfect start for a perfect album. Also among the album is an excellent remake of "Doll Judgment ~ The Girl Who Played With People's Shapes" from Touhou 7: Perfect Cherry Blossom, and "Night Falls ~ Evening Star" from Touhou 7.5 Immaterial and Missing Power, as well as other remakes and great first time tracks. It overall has a somewhat "Dreamish" feel it, which goes along with the story of the album, which is about a girl's dreams. |

06.15.10 | Ten by Pearl Jam; it's incredibly emotional and personal to me in so many ways. It's always 'been there' for me, in a sense. The musicianship is incredible and Eddie Vedder's vocals are superb all the way through. It's just...perfect. |
eternium
06.15.10 | I didn't say there was anything wrong with it.
I've been wanting to write a review for my 5's, but most of them either already have way too many reviews already or one especially amazing review that I can't possibly match (mainly TDS). |
Disconnected
06.15.10 | Mono - Hymn to the Immortal Wind
It embraces the distorted guitar sound and mixes in quiet-loud transitions in the middle of the epic, lengthy tracks. It's sort of like a mixture of Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Mogwai, except that it's better than anything either band ever released. Also, hearing most of it live has built my respect for it. |
Dre
06.15.10 | Frances the Mute - It's catchy, long and jams like a motherfucker. PROGMASTER
Opeth - Still Life because its fucking Still Life
Weezer - Pinkerton Rolling Stone hated it. |

06.15.10 | you should write it anyways eternium. whenever i start reviewing i'm going to review Wish You Were Here. it obviously has enough reviews and i know it will pry be the worst review |

Yazz_Flute
06.15.10 | BSSM > Dirt |
PearlDrummer20
06.15.10 | Oh sheesh yall I forgot my reasons
Dirt because of it's perfect blend of grunge and metal, creating an overwhelmingly dark atmosphere balancing it out with brilliant ballads such as 'Down In A Hole'.
The Colour And The Shape because it's just a near-flawless album without one bad or even mediocre song
Blood Sugar Sex Magik because it has a great fusion of funk and alt. rock, just plain beautiful instrumentally. |
