| Favorite Guitarists Of Any Genre
I think these guys are studs. I hate shred guitarists so you won't
find that on here (i.e.
Petrucci). Granted, many of them employ astounding amounts of
technicality in their playing,
but you get the point. | | 1 | Teppei Taranishi of Thrice
His lines fit and counter the chord progression of any Thrice song so perfectly and gracefully. He's
incredibly
good at using tapping in an elegant, non-metal fashion (i.e. Of Dust and Nations). I also love his piano
work (For Miles), and all his multi-instrumental abilities (The Alchemy Index). He also gets mad props
for
engineering and producing The Alchemy Index. | | 2 | Paul Waggoner of Between the Buried and Me
Paul is the closest thing to a "shred guitarist" on this catalogue because of his ridiculous technical
ability,
and he does bring the shred from time to time, but ultimately he's just a brilliant composer and a truly
elegant player. His suffocatingly dense riffing in BTBAM's heavy sections has a sound all of its own, and
his
melodic lead work is impactful and often times very simple (end of Mordecai). I love his clean,
jazzy/bluesy
solos as well (also Mordecai), and of course his sweep picking, though I'm glad he's laid off of it quite a
bit
in their newer stuff because too much sweeping gets really old so easily. | | 3 | Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine
Creativity incarnate. Look up his Wikipedia page and check out the gear he uses. It's anything but
extensive or state of the art, but the sounds he gets out of his humble little set up are mind boggling.
He is
the DJ for Rage just as much as the guitarist, and his library of unforgettable riffs is formidable to say
the
least. | | 4 | Mike Einzeger of Incubus
Amazing song writer. Mike writes so many instantly recognizable chord progressions and lead lines
(Wish
You Were Here has a prime example of both). His implementation of complex jazz chords and his love
of
dissonance make him one of my favorites, and his quirky solos (mainly found on Crow Left of the
Murder)
are simply awesome. | | 5 | Michael Keene of The Faceless
Very technically proficient and clean, but above all else he writes some of the coolest riffs found in
technical
death metal. They are intricate yet follow-able and catchy in a dark, ethereal kind of way. | |
