And to be fair, any politician would step over your burning corpse to punch a baby in the face to steal its sweets. ConsiderPhlebas 05.12.10	@Satellite - The Prime Minister would be the most likely equivalent of your President. The Conservatives are, in theory, roughly the same as Republicans, but all parties are effectively the same now.
eternium 05.12.10	I wouldn't compare your Conservatives to our Republicans. Your Conservatives are pretty moderate and have some sense, such as supporting NHS. Our Republicans, on the other hand, are losing their minds over "Obamacare," which isn't even government run.
ConsiderPhlebas 05.12.10	The Conservatives implemented the NHS back in the day because we needed to maintain a healthy population in case of another major war. There are actually ripples throughout all the parties that suggest that the NHS' time is nearing its end. The Republicans - in fact all American politics - seems more...reactionary, maybe? There is certainly far less focus on religion here, although there is a strong Catholic presence in most parties.
eternium 05.12.10	The religion is a major problem here, being that people are wrongly convinced that the U.S. was founded as a Christian nation and far too many politicians wish to enforce their personal beliefs on every American. Republicans are basically against anything that Obama wants. A large part of that is playing politics, even with things as important as health care. It is rather sad and pathetic. I'm sure you can save NHS by going through your budget just as we'll have to for Social Security.

Before your last election I saw a documentary where they went to a small American town where the economy had gone tits up, and the major said how she voted for Bush because he was the only guy who 'followed the scriptures'. Seems like madness to me. They had Ann Coulter on the news here a while back and she got fucking ran over by the interviewer.

eternium 05.12.10	Half of the founding fathers weren't even Christians. Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson both despised organized religion. The very aspect of "separation of church and state" and the freedom of religion nullifies the idea of a Christian nation, even if the majority of Americans are Christians.
