Old Vs New

A band is born. They begin their career quite well, become "underground famous", recieve a lot of praise for their music. and the suddenly BAM - the next album is something completely different. Its too watered-down, too mainstream sounding. The band begins to recieve more and more radio airplay, soon they headline big festivals. Hot Topic sells all their "new" albums and merchandise. Soon the fans of the "old" material become bitter and angry assholes, constantly whining about how that band sold-out and dreaming about the long passed by glory days. Sounds familiar, eh? To tell you the truth, I like a few of these "sell-out" bands. And I like BOTH "old" and "new" sound. The point of this list is to figure out wheather SputnikMusic is full of elitists, poser scene kids, or just people with different tastes in music. I'm going to list two albums from some of the bands I like - one "old" and one "new", Let's see what happens.
1In Flames
Clayman

Well, this could be the last great In Flames record or the first weak one. For some, at least. It may be a bit less melodic death metal than their previous releases, but I enjoy it nevertheless.
Favourite song: Only for the Weak
2In Flames
Reroute to Remain

OK, I am cheating here - Come Clarity is my favourite "new" In Flames album. But that would be just too predictable, wouldn't it? Anyway, this deserves the hate it gets - I mean, thats one GIGANTIC step down for the band. But really, it's not completely terrible. I'd rather have this playing on the local radio station than Nickleback.
Favourite song: Free Fall
3Killswitch Engage
Alive or Just Breathing

Sort of a landmark achievement for KsE, isn't it? One of the first albums with screaming I really enjoyed thoroughly. It basicaly changed my perception on more extreme forms of music.
Favourite song: My Last Serenade
4Killswitch Engage
As Daylight Dies

A lot of people dislike this. I guess I can understand - it's quite simplistic when
compared to their previous efforts. To me, it's a great listen - melodies are
memorable, Jones' clean vocals at their best, still decent lyrics... If someone asked me, what my favourite KsE album is, it would be this one. If they would ask which one is the BEST, I would definetly point to AoJB.
Favourite song: Eye of the Storm
5Metallica
...and Justice for All

Good old thrash... sort of. Even with all it's flaws, like the lack of bass, awful production and some songs that just plod along (looking at you, To Live is to Die), this is still an amazing record. Not their best, of course, but still...
Favourite song: Dyer's Eve
6Metallica
Load

Metallica's "rock phase", as one friend said it, "was a mild disaster". Talk about understatement. Anyway, even though I've got a feeling I'm gonna get a lot of hate for this, I find this album really underrated. Sure, it's far off a great record, but it's not as bad as people think.
Favourite song: 2x4
7Soilwork
A Predator's Portrait

Soilwork isn't the first name that comes when you think "good melodic death metal". It might be the first one to come when you're thinging about "average/shitty melodic death metal" I dunno. But I digress. This album is a testament to all things that could be loved about "old" Soilwork.
Favourite song: Needlefeast
8Soilwork
Stabbing the Drama

Either the best or the worst of "new" Soilwork. I find it the best, because it's quite appealing to me. Chuggy guitars, pretty good drumming decent screaming and awesome clean vocal. It's like dream come true... for me anyways. There goes my musical integrity...
Favourite song: Wherever Thorns May Grow
