Periphery Self-titled Ranked
HYPEHYPEHYPE but yeah this is my AOTY so far. |
12 | Periphery Ow, My Feelings
Decent, albeit repetitive. Definitely my least favorite. |
11 | Totla Mad
Great tapping in this one, it's just no as memorable as some of the other tracks. |
10 | Light
I might get shit for having this so low, but it hasn't stuck out to me as much as most of the other tracks.
Some great clean vocals but I think it could have benefitted with some stronger harsh vocals. |
9 | Icarus Lives
One of the least impressive songs musically (though it still is pretty damn impressive) but it features some
great vocal melodies. |
8 | Jetpacks Was Yes
Don't get the title but this is a very well-constructed poppier song. It almost reminds me of MaybeSheWill if
they added vocals to their music. |
7 | The Walk
Many of the riffs and breakdowns here require significant head-banging, although it is slightly repetitive. |
6 | Insomnia
This one has the most memorable riffage to me. Strong opener. |
5 | All New Materials
I really love the opening riff to this one, some great vocal melodies amidst the typical flurry of guitars. |
4 | Buttersnips
This one is slightly repetitive but the middle section is absolutely gorgeous. It reminds me of Augury's
"Fragmentary Evidence" from 2009 a little bit. |
3 | Zyglrox
Perhaps the most chaotic and death-metal influenced song on the album. Some extremely effective
blastbeats. EFFECTIVE. |
2 | Letter Experiment
The highlight of the song is definitely the tapping section at 1:58. Breathtaking. |
1 | Racecar
Writing a technical metal song over 15 minutes is quite an ambitious task. Very few if any have done it
correctly and it's astounding that a band as young as Periphery can write a song of such length while
simultaneously keeping it fresh and interesting thoughout. Despite it taking up nearly 1/5 of the album's
runtime, it is probably the least repetitive on the cd, and features some of the tightest musicianship i've
ever heard. Also how many epics do you hear with such a juvenile title? |
