04.21.10 | what you got sputnik |
SeaAnemone
04.21.10 | Weakerthans. not many bands come close... I'd add Brand New and Minus the Bear, but those are both debatable. |
SeaAnemone
04.21.10 | also Spoon is highly consistent... along with bands like GY!BE and Elliott Smith but they're old and dead so... |
intothepit83
04.21.10 | every time i die is pretty consistent, meshuggah, strapping young lad, and emmure(consistently bad) |
Boognish3
04.21.10 | High Violet struck me as being very, very boring |
Inveigh
04.21.10 | Hmm, I haven't listened to Weakerthans, and I'm not a fan of Deja otherwise I would've put Brand New on here. My criteria was basically having (at least) three consecutive albums at a 4-level or so and still being an active band (so no Metallica, Pink Floyd etc).
I need to listen to Minus the Bear more, I've never actually heard an album.
Every Time I Die was actually gonna be on here, but I chose Converge instead. Plus, NJA is probably my least favorite of theirs since Last Night In Town (which is ultimately why they missed the cut I guess). But they are basically a damn consistent band.
High Violet gets better with each listen, but I could see how you'd get a boring vibe esp from the first couple tracks. |

04.21.10 | THE WEAKERTHANS YES |
EverythingEvil2113
04.21.10 | Love the title, I can picture Dennis Green now, in fact I'm going to youtube that rant right now. Neurosis, Deftones, and Converge are all awesome too. |
BigTuna
04.21.10 | also, Thrice |
intothepit83
04.21.10 | yeah, but thrice had a bit of a bump in the road with the alchemy index |
Inveigh
04.21.10 | yep, Thrice wouldda made the cut if it weren't for those Alchemy Indexes. Not that they weren't good, just not anywhere close to 4-worthy imo
and yeah, rant rules. I'll never forget that game, we were watching it at my friend's house all bummed out that the Bears were down so much at halftime... we were so pissed we decided to just hit up a bar and get hammered while watching but by the end of the game we were running around the bar high fiving everyone in sight and doing shots with strangers hahaha |
SeaAnemone
04.21.10 | the ONLY others I would add would be Radiohead (obviously) and The Gaslight Anthem... their latest is pushing 4.5 territory and their last 2 are dangerously close to classic for me.. about the same as The National actually |
Prophet178
04.21.10 | Guess I'll be the first to say it: Opeth. |
BigTuna
04.21.10 | Hell no The Alchemy Indexes were all amazing |
Inveigh
04.21.10 | oooh Radiohead good call.
funny that you mention The Gaslight Anthem... they actually helped inspire this list as well, but only because I find High Violet to be so much better than American Slang. The '59 Sound is a 5 for me, and Sink or Swim is an easy 4 that pushes 4.5; but on the one and a half listens I've given to American Slang it just kinda bored me. Too mid-tempo or something. It's like they removed any trace of punk out of their sound, and that's what I loved so much about The '59 Sound. It was like they wrote a bunch of punk songs, then played them in the style of Americana. The new one's just Americana. |

04.21.10 | also, Drudkh |

04.21.10 | Opeth had a great run with Still Life, BwP and Ghost Reveries, but I didn't care for Watershed too much and haven't listened to much before SL. But I definitely gave them some thought. |
Phrike
04.21.10 | Death
Unearth
Architects
Amon Amarth
Carcass
Rage
Heaven Shall Burn
... or something like that |
Prophet178
04.21.10 | And Fugazi, duh. |
Phrike
04.21.10 | Some of them are no longer active I know, but w/e |
Satellite
04.21.10 | Was that a Dennis Green reference? |
intothepit83
04.21.10 | fugazi's the best of em yet |
Inveigh
04.21.10 | agreed on Fugazi, Death, Carcass but none are active. Rage was really consistent, but they're more like 3.5s to me than 4s.. and not active ;-)
and yeah, Denny Green ftw. well, at least that rant ftw. |
americanmusicmachine
04.21.10 | Damien Jurado, and the Mountain Goats probably too. |
Bandido
04.21.10 | Minus the Bear (you really should listen to more), RX Bandits too |
fr33convict
04.21.10 | LIST NEEDZ MOAR OPETH! |
Phrike
04.21.10 | I meant Rage, the German power/prog metal band. |
Inveigh
04.21.10 | oh, well then I cannot comment on that Rage, never listened to em.
yeah, Minus the Bear needs to get more play from me for sure. I hear the same thing about RX Bandits and Mountain Goats. |
Baphomet
04.21.10 | So far Defeater has proven to be consistent, as have Mew, Protuga. the Man and DEP. |
Inveigh
04.21.10 | yea DEP's pretty consistent. but, even though it's good, Ire Works still doesn't hold up well to the rest of their disco (outside of s/t at least). my opinion of course. |
Baphomet
04.21.10 | you do have a pont there, but while IW isn't as good it's nowhere near bad and the later half of the album is amazing. |
Inveigh
04.21.10 | definitely. I actually love both the beginning and end of the album, it's the middle where it drags. it's definitely great, somewhere between a 3.5 and 4 for me. |
