Deftones - Top 30 Songs
Very difficult to do. Haven't heard Adrenaline. |
| 30 | Deftones Risk/Prince
Caught between Risk and Prince for the 30th spot. Both started off as my least favorites off of Diamond
Eyes but they've grown on me considerably. Risk has some simple guitar chugging and a powerful chorus,
while Prince features a great bassline and interesting effects, as well as a strong chorus. |
| 29 | Anniversary of an Uninteresting Event
Very unconventional song by the Deftones, but one of their most touching and sadly overlooked. |
| 28 | This Place is Death
It took a while for me to like this song but i've decided it's the perfect ending to Diamond Eyes. It gives off
the same creepy atmosphere as most of Saturday Night Wrist and leaves the listener wanting more. I
really enjoy the drumming in the verse too. |
| 27 | Combat
I really love the ambient intro to this song. Some great drumming. |
| 26 | Minerva
Love the wall of sound production on this song. A bit slow and repetitive but it sure as hell is one of the
Deftones' most powerful songs. |
| 25 | Deathblow
That chorus... |
| 24 | Elite
I was surprised when I heard this song had won a Grammy, definitely deserving of it though. Just a bit
repetitive. |
| 23 | Rats! Rats! Rats!
Chino's screams sound a bit weak on this one but this is arguably the most chaotic song they've recorded.
The breakdown towards the end is heavy as anything. |
| 22 | Royal
The ending section is one of the heaviest and most chaotic ends to any Deftones song. |
| 21 | Headup
One of their most nu-metal-sounding tracks, but it's a blast to listen to, and a great song to drive to. |
| 20 | Korea
One of their better heavy tracks, some fantastic riffs on this one. |
| 19 | My Own Summer (Shove it)
Great earlier Deftones song. |
| 18 | 976-EVIL
A pretty light and airy song highlighted by it's uplifting chorus. |
| 17 | Lotion
Sounds a whole lot like a Glassjaw song (or the other way around really) but none-the-less it's incredible. |
| 16 | Around the Fur
Dark, sleazy verses coupled with a balls-to-the-wall chorus. Classic. |
| 15 | Blood Cape
The riff is absolutely monstrous on this one, and Chino's meltdown at the end is terrifying. |
| 14 | Kimdracula
Another stupid song title but what of Chino's best vocal performances. One of the simpler songs off of
Saturday Night Wrist but it makes up for it by being catchy and memorable. |
| 13 | Rocket Skates
GUNS. RAZORS. KNIIIIIIIIIVESWOO. |
| 12 | Beauty School
It's grown off of me slightly, but the chorus is still one of the highlights of the Deftones' discography. |
| 11 | Pink Maggit
Slightly repetitive, but it's incredibly powerful and the perfect ending to White Pony. |
| 10 | U,U,D,D,L,R,L,R,A,B,Select,Start
Very overlooked song, but one of the most haunting and perfect instrumentals I've ever heard. There a lot
of minimalist swelling and atmospherics in the background that really make it effective. |
| 9 | Sextape
Not to judge a book by its cover, but just by reading the name I never would have expected this to be my
favorite off of Diamond Eyes. Turns out it's one of the most touching and beautiful pieces of music the
'Tones have recorded. |
| 8 | Hexagram
I couldn't stand this song at first, but as I got used to the schizophrenic chorus it really began to grow on
me. The verses are probably the highlight for me though, featuring the band at their tightest. |
| 7 | Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)
This song really marks the progression from the earlier, nu-metal Deftones to their more mature current
sound. Some really memorable riffs here and another inspired performance by Chino. |
| 6 | Beware
The first half of the song is some of the most haunting material recorded by any band, and then at the end
it decides to get all heavy and shit. Marvelous. |
| 5 | Digital Bath
That note Chino hits in the second chorus is frightening. Only five songs through and i'm already running
out of things to say haha. |
| 4 | Change (In the House of Flies)
The chorus makes this song, possibly the most powerful in the entire Deftones discography. |
| 3 | Cherry Waves
Absolutely beautiful song, and possibly my favorite vocal performance by Chino. The meandering bass line
also supplies the feeling of floating underwater - again really adding to the imagery of the lyrics. |
| 2 | Passenger
The combination of Maynard's powerful vocals, Delgado's eery atmospherics, and Carpenter's simple yet
effective riffs portray the sinister imagery of the lyrics flawlessly. |
| 1 | Knife Prty
Perfectly blends the more shoegazey, ethereal sound of songs such as "Teenager" with the distortion and
aggression of earlier 'Tones material. The lyrics are beautiful and deive albeit in a slightly juvenile
way, but that only makes the song more effective. The wailing female vocalist at the end gives this song a
discontenting and frightening atmosphere. One of the most powerful songs i've ever heard, and rightfully
my favorite Deftones song. |
