Yotbr Ranked

Here is my ranking of year of the black rainbow. I feel like this record is really a testament to the true fans of coheed. It's a bit like thrice's beggars, or Brand New's Daisy. Like those albums it tested what we all thought those bands were, it went in a direction that for the band must have felt so natural and progressive but at first ( for me at least) it felt so jarring. This has enough unfamiliar direction it feels like a complete stranger... or a stranger you met in a past life. My gripes at first were as follows: It doesn't have that sweet fucking C&C epic theme song, even though I guess NWFT didn't really have it either. It also doesn't have that rediculously building intro, what it does have is this strange ambient piece that is supposed to represent the beginning (or end?) of a battle. They lost the quirkiness in the lyrics/ story elements that stayed consistent in their albums, like "goodnight tonight, my love" or "what did I do to deserve all of you". Or where was the closing movements, like the velorium camper and willing wells. (I miss that stuff so much.) I do understand that it's the prequel album but it certainly didn't feel like it belonged in the same universe as the others. To me it still feels like a seperate story not the chain of events that led up to second stage. Yet the more I listen and dwell on this album I realize that this is a band maturing and opening up a new chapter that represents a darker and chaotic side. I believe whatever happens next in the coheed discog. will be more experimental and embracing of the progressive side of their music. I've come to terms to understand that YotBR is a preface to their earlier work as well as a prologue to ventures away from the coheed and cambria story arc to more conceptual scifi and horror stories. They still have to make their own alchemy index imo and I think now that the band story is over they can now really go down the rabbit hole. As of now i'm starting to find what's to love in this album and can easily say that YotBR may be eventually become my aoty.
1Here We Are Juggernaut

This is not your playground it's my heart. We'll bury our burdens in blood. LOOVEE IT.
2Guns Of Summer

This is what a guitar solo sounds like when it's being imported into Tron
3Black Rainbow

I think it's very poignant that he's singing "IT'S OVAH IT'S OVEERRR". Beats the hell out of HAIL HAIL HAIL HAIL HAIL
4The Broken

GA GA GA Lady Gaga should cover this song. WE RRR WE OO RRRR WE'LLLLL ALWAYS BEEEEEE. the wronged
5World Of Lines

Catchy as Fuck
6Pearl Of The Stars

If the world is burned apart and there is gonna be room for her car where the fuck are the roads gonna be? Great ballad-esque song nonetheless
7Far

I love the melody, the chorus, and that weird guitar tuning in the bridge
8This Shattered Symphony

The intro to this song is just soooooo fucking good. Gimme the gun...
9Made Out Of Nothing( All That I Am)

Sounds like the two apollos. I like.
10When Skeletons Live

12One

I would've liked that theme song in a military-esque drumming style opening. I dunno
