eternium
04.11.10 | Really been in a post-metal/post-rock mood for the last few days. |
Niceinvader
04.11.10 | Where's Irepress and Giant Squid? |
AnotherBrick
04.11.10 | still havent really found a post-metal album that i love |
eternium
04.11.10 | Further back. I haven't listened to either of those in awhile. |
eternium
04.11.10 | Which of the albums in this list have you listened to? |
Niceinvader
04.11.10 | I see, by the way I love seeing burst, wavering radiant, and precambrian on this list. |
Prophet178
04.11.10 | You don't consider Neurosis post-metal wtf? They practically invented the genre. |
Niceinvader
04.11.10 | I agree with eternium they may have spawned and inspired 90% of the post-metal bands, but neurosis are a genre of their own and always will be. |
Sowing
04.11.10 | mmm lots of isis = good |
eternium
04.11.10 | There isn't exactly that much post-rock in their sound. Just really slow, dark, folky, ambient sludge metal. Sort of the godfathers of post-metal.
Most people agree that Oceanic was the first true post-metal album. |
8bit
04.11.10 | I gotta check out 9.
I'm stoked for The Ocean's two new albums. |
eternium
04.11.10 | Heliocentric is meh compared to their other stuff.
I still have hope for Anthropocentric. |
eternium
04.12.10 | While I'm thinking about it, everyone should check out this post-metal band.

kirktastic
04.12.10 | i'm not a big fan of post-metal, i like isis and a few cult of luna songs, but much beyond that i can't get into it at all |
Relinquished
04.12.10 | Wow I hope this isn't all you heard. 6 and 8 aren't considered post-metal.
"There isn't exactly that much post-rock in their sound. Just really slow, dark, folky, ambient sludge metal. Sort of the godfathers of post-metal."
Most people agree that Oceanic was the first true post-metal album."
I hope you're not fucking serious. |
Prophet178
04.12.10 | Hahah Relinquished, I was waiting for you to see this list.
Seriously though, Through Silver and Blood pretty much invented post-metal in '96, Oceanic came out 6 years later. Neurosis may have their "own" sound, but they are post-metal through and through.
I don't get how anyone can consider 6 post-metal either, its the tamest Pelican album, it's pretty much post-rock. Austeralasia is way more metal than that.
|
eternium
04.12.10 | I think it's heavy enough. I still don't think Neurosis has post-rock elements, and you should know that I LOVE me some Neurosis. |
Prophet178
04.12.10 | That aside, you should listen to Lvmen - Mondo, its my favorite post-metal album. |
eternium
04.12.10 | And you should check out that band that I linked to. |
Relinquished
04.12.10 | Australasia rules. NightEndDay is probably Pelican's best post-metal song. Burst, I would consider Prey On Life post-metal more than the other albums. Lazarus Bird isn't post-metal that much.
If that Pelican album is post-metal, then Russian Circles, If These Trees Could Talk, and Irepress are too. And everyone knows the hell they're not. |
robertsona
04.12.10 | 4>1 |
eternium
04.12.10 | Eh, it's debatable. A lot of bands are borderline.
And holy balls at the vocals in Lvmen. |
Nikkolae
04.12.10 | i have every single one of them xcept 8, 6 and 5, super albums btw |
Countess
04.12.10 | Burst is post-metal? |
Relinquished
04.12.10 | Why debatable if it's wrong? A few are borderline I guess, but either they are or they aren't.
Callisto - Noir

Just leaving this out there. |
kirktastic
04.12.10 | eternium, they're like the godspeed of post-metal, but i didn't like it too much, still alot better than most post-metal i've heard |
eternium
04.12.10 | The Godspeed of post-metal, yet you didn't like it. Interesting concept. |
kirktastic
04.12.10 | lol well i'm not a big fan of godspeed either |
eternium
04.12.10 | Your loss. |
Yazz_Flute
04.12.10 | The Ocean - Precambrian
Rosetta - The Galilean Satellites
Burst - Origo
Isis - Oceanic
The Ocean - Aeolian
Isis - Wavering Radiant
Rosetta - Wake/Lift
Trenches - The Tide Will Swallow Us Whole
Burst - Lazarus Bird
Intronaut - Prehistoricisms
Isis - Panopticon
Isis - In the Absence of Truth
Neurosis - Through Silver in Blood
The Ocean - Heliocentric
I think those are all the post-metal albums i've heard...If The Pax Cecilia - Blessed Are the Bonds is to be considered post-metal (which i've seen it labeled as) it would be number 1, but I don't really consider it such. |
Relinquished
04.12.10 | again Burst isn't entirely post-metal
yo bodom you need more cult of luna |
Yazz_Flute
04.12.10 | yeah Burst and Trenches aren't exactly *tr00* post-metal but they kinda are.
And yeah I need more good post-metal in general. When it's done right (like Precambrian and The Galilean Satellites) it's one of my favorite genres, I just haven't found many albums from the genre with lasting power. |
Yazz_Flute
04.12.10 | Oh i've heard Giant Squid also, it was decent. |
Relinquished
04.12.10 | "And yeah I need more good post-metal in general. When it's done right (like Precambrian and The Galilean Satellites) it's one of my favorite genres, I just haven't found many albums from the genre with lasting power."
CULT OF LUNA
CULT OF LUNA
CULT OF LUNA
they're better than Isis |
Powerban
04.12.10 | The Water Is Deep Here doesn't sound too bad.
Have a listen to Amenra - Aorte. I reviewed those guys too.
http://www.myspace.com/amenra |
Marsygra
04.26.10 | Great list, would have liked to see some Russian Circles or Gaza in the list tho |
qwe3
04.26.10 | "There isn't exactly that much post-rock in their sound. Just really slow, dark, folky, ambient sludge metal. Sort of the godfathers of post-metal.
Most people agree that Oceanic was the first true post-metal album. "
lol no Neurosis invented post metal. first post metal band ever. just because their music isn't boring as shit doesn't mean they're not post metal.
what a retarded thing to say |
Niceinvader
04.26.10 | pigeonholing a band into a genre and then calling someone retarded because they didn't is retarded. Even if that band pioneered the genre. |
qwe3
04.26.10 | i called him retarded for saying the band that invented post metal isn't post metal.
it's like saying bark psychosis isn't post rock |
Niceinvader
04.26.10 | Yeah, but some of neurosis isn't post metal because it's way too ambient and folky like eternium said. |
Prophet178
04.26.10 | It's not pidgeonholing when it's a fact that Neurosis invented post-metal. |
Niceinvader
04.26.10 | Alright then, what would you call it? If it isn't pigeonholing |
qwe3
04.26.10 | guys newsflash if something has ambiance and folky parts it ISNT POST METAL OMG |
Niceinvader
04.26.10 | So we agree that half of neurosis is post metal and the other half is post rock then? |
Prophet178
04.26.10 | Which is the fucking definition of the genre post-metal. |
qwe3
04.26.10 | no we agree that you know nothing about post metal |
Niceinvader
04.26.10 | that makes no sense to me, I guess i've been out of loop for some time now. |
