Slayer Albums Ranked

Ranked to my tastes, not classic to least classic
10Slayer
World Painted Blood

(2009) The latest and by far worst album. Were they even trying on this album? Badly produced, and no effort shown from the band. Hopefully Slayer wakes up next time around. This is the only album I regret buying; the rest regardless of rank are still in my rotation.
9Slayer
South of Heaven

(1988) The missing link from Reign in Blood to Seasons. Good album, but nothing too extraordinary. Again, DI only gets ahead of this album because of the title track (btw, the title track on this one is also classic).
8Slayer
Divine Intervention

(1994) At once and simultaneously, this album sounds like a watered-down sequel to Seasons and as though the band don't know how to react to new drummer Paul Bostaph. Check out the brutal title track though!
7Slayer
Christ Illusion

(2006) Not a bad album, and certainly a return to form of the Lombardo years of the 80s to '91, which most say are the best.
6Slayer
Diabolus In Musica

(1997) Slayer's tinkerings with nu-metal (but don't expect Korn! It's just got some grooves and catchy hooks!). Also an accessible album for initiates of thrash and Slayer. This sound will be polished and hardened on God Hates Us All
5Slayer
Show No Mercy

(1983) The debut. Araya's screams will never be better, and only rivaled on Reign in Blood.
4Slayer
Seasons in the Abyss

(1991) Probably the most accessible Slayer album, and also one of the best. More progressive than other albums, but still breakneck fast. More melodic too. Lombardo's last album on drums before his return on Christ Illusion 15 years later.
3Slayer
Hell Awaits

(1984) You thought ...And Justice For All was complex? Nah. Give this a listen. Slayer at their most complicated song structures. Not recommended for new initiates! It's dizzying, but so worth it later!
2Slayer
Reign In Blood

(1986) SPEED. A classic of the genre.
1Slayer
God Hates Us All

(2001) Most powerful, heavy, ferocious, dark and twisted Slayer album. On Divine Intervention and Diabolous, Slayer were still getting adjusted to Paul Bostaph on drums. They've done here, and IMO, created their best album
