Nick Drake...ranked

I never liked folk. Never was into those singer-songwriter guys. But lately, I've been getting into some of them. Say what you want about Jeff Magnum, Bon Iver and Elliot Smith, but in the end, I truly believe that Nick Drake is the best solo folk artist of all time. Some of you know his story, some don't. Anyway, he does not have one bad record in his 3-album discography. discography, and it was hard to choose my favorite, but I've narrows it down to the most consistent one, and I think I have a good list here.
1Nick Drake
Five Leaves Left

Drake at his best, ever. This album has some of his best lyrics, and contains the best arrangements in folk history. Every song is brilliant, no
filler, no weak spots. Many people consider "Pink Moon" to be his best triumph, but this is my favorite. Filled with gorgeous string
arrangements and crisp vocal melodies, "Five Leaves Left" is a fantastic folk effort from start to finish.
Favorite Tracks: "River Man", "Saturday Sun", "Day is Done", "Way to Blue", "Three Hours"
5/5
2Nick Drake
Pink Moon

Ahh, "Pink Moon", what is perhaps the most haunting folk album in music history. This one has no strings, no horns, no nothing except for
Drake and his guitar, and one track has a little piano. Though "Five Leaves Left" is my personal favorite, the fact that there are no
orchestral arrangements whatsoever makes this bare record showcase Drake's guitar playing, and his guitar playing is at it's best and most
diverse here. This album is also probably his most emotional, and definitely rivals his opus, "Five Leaves Left". Again, the vocals are divine.
Favorite Tracks: "Pink Moon", "Place to Be", "Free Ride", "From the Morning"
4.5/5
3Nick Drake
Bryter Layter

"Bryter Layter", while my least favorite Drake album, is still fantastic in it's own way; it is the most musically diverse album Drake has ever
done. It contains elements from jazz, blues, rock and pop. One could say, it is the most experimental album in Nick's discography. There are
only one or two tracks I don't like here, and that's only because they are a little to 'out there' and are not really good examples of Drake's
true folk style. However, besides these two tracks, the album is still near perfect. Probably the most engaging of Drake's three albums,
despite being his most inconsistent.
Favorite Tracks: "Northern Sky", "Fly", "Hazey Jane I and II"
4-4.5/5
