This is Epic

5 songs with just an incredibly epic feel to them. Post-rock need not apply.
1Nine Inch Nails
Hurt

This song is just absolutely as close to flawless as you will find just about anywhere. The emotional transition of the song from its dark and brooding opening until the bombastic and uplifting chorus emanates an epic feeling that hasn?t been duplicated in music since, and probably won?t be duplicated, much less topped, for a very long time.
2Machinae Supremacy
Through the Looking Glass

Something about this song just makes it absolutely incredible. The piano line is sublime, the vocals are catchy, and the guitar work interweaves amazingly with the piano. Something about it just gives off that feeling of storming off into some epic battle. I prefer to wear medieval battle armor and storm around my house otherwise naked. This song sort of sounds like it belongs on the Top Gun soundtrack or something.
3Iron Maiden
The Wicker Man

Ask most metal fans what the top 5 choruses of all time are, and I?ll practically guarantee that The Wicker Man will show up at one point or another. I can?t even really put my finger on why this song is so just ass kicking-ly epic, aside from the fact that the chorus plays a huge part in it. So do the verses. God what a bad deion.
4Strung Out
The Misanthropic Principle

I suppose this is somewhat of a preferential pick, but The Misanthropic Principle is probably the most epic pop-punk song ever created. From the infectious riffing, to the belted hooks, and all the way until the atmospheric ending which seems to cast a golden hue across an album that is pervaded by dark imagery and mood, The Misanthropic Principle achieves a mood that has pretty much never been duplicated before (at least not by any other band).
5Circle Takes the Square
In the Nervous Light of Sunday

Unlike some of the other songs on this list, the origin of the epicness of this album is quite apparent. After this brutal opening minutes, the song transitions into a lush and beautiful soft dynamic, with Drew Speziale crooning softly and trembling, while the female vocalist (we?ll call her Cook since I can?t be bothered to remember such a name) puts up an extraordinary vocal performance that wouldn?t sound at all out of place on a Shania Twain album. It?s these trade-offs of the hard and soft dynamic that really give the song that epic feeling which has landed it a spot on this list.
